提到阿西莫夫, 大家首先想到的就是机器人系列和基地系列,
由此往往会忽略了他的其他作品. 实际上阿西莫夫的长篇小说
里头是有一部既不在那两个系列之中, 其成就又足以和那两个
系列相辉映的作品: The Gods Themselves.
这个标题出自席勒描写圣女贞德的剧作中的一句话:
Against Stupidity, the Gods themselves contend in vain.
整本书分成三部分, 而这三部分的标题分别就是"Against
Stupidity", "The Gods Themselves", "Contend in Vain".
第一部分"Against Stupidity", 说的是一个科学家因发现平
行宇宙(Para-Universe)和从平行宇宙中汲取无尽能源的方法
而被尊为最伟大的科学家, 但后来一个年轻人经过详细考察和
独立思考, 发现这一技术蕴藏了极大的危险. 然而人们只顾享
受这无穷无尽的免费能源, 谁也不理会他的警告.
