在我们中小学的课本里，讲的都是社会主义如何最终将战胜资本主义，而被我们后来当
成了笑话来谈。特别是在20年前来到美国时，见到发达的高速公路和到处的高楼大厦，
更是觉得中学课本太可笑了，而且后来听得更多的是中国将如何和平演变到西方的资本
主义。但出人意料的几十年后的今天，中国还是同样的政治制度，却带来了许许多多的
经济奇迹，而美国，我们原来认为如此发达的西方民主领袖，今天却陷入了深重的政治
及经济危机。两年前的金融危机，不光是让人了解到美国所谓的自由市场经济不过是金
权结合的裙带资本主义，而它的三权分立的所谓政治民主制度，也其实成为了一个自欺
欺人的幌子，两党制约更多变成了两党妥协，共同合作，利用政治权力共同谋取私利。
司法也变成了专对弱者使用的工具，怪不得纽约的参议员舒默，竟然都记不起美国还有
“司法”这一政府机构了。

但10篇journal不能说明什么问题，要看领域和journal质量。
我读PHD的那个系的标准是有一篇文章引用过百就可以tenure（对于新发的文章，如果
potentially可以过百，也行。至于怎么看potential，就是其他数学家说了算了）。
但是数学类文章过百是比较难的。Terrence Tao得菲尔兹奖的工作目前为止也才400个
引用，倒是他和candes写的信号处理的文章有5000多个引用。 |

也能懂），智力较好的7, 8岁开窍。像高斯，terrence tao, 陈景润这样的，4到5岁能
开窍。如果你儿子5岁不开窍，就不要教了，focus on reading now. 等7岁教，一下就

澳大利亚土生土长的华裔天才陶哲轩(Terrence Tao)于2006年年8月获得数学界的诺贝
尔奖--菲尔兹奖(Fields Medal)。国际数学会(IMU)每年在国际数学大会上颁菲尔兹奖
给两至四名数学家，IMU表示，陶教授被颁这个殊荣，是因他对偏微分方程、组合
数学、混合分析和堆垒素数论的杰出贡献。
陶哲轩是赢得菲尔兹奖的第一位澳大利亚人，也是继1982年的丘成桐之后获此殊荣
的第二位华人。
去年与陶哲轩同获菲尔兹奖的，还有美国普林斯顿大学的欧克恩科夫(Andrei
Okounkov)、法国巴黎第十一大学的沃纳(Wendelin Werner)，以及过着隐居生活的俄

是她的个人气质。一般一点的市井妇女，不嫁默多克，也是可以有很强的悍妇气质的。
境遇是可以部分的塑造一个人的气质，但我觉得还是个人气质占主导。
而且，我见过的搞science的大牛都是气质冲和的偏多。Terrence Tao拿到fields奖之
后，我跑去他的课围观了一下。他就和UCLA数学系随便拉一个学生出来没两样啊。这个
年轻的例子跟庄小威比较接近。老牛人就不举了。。。
一看就人中龙凤，聪明外露的学术精英也不是没有，但我觉得庄小威不是这样的，我觉
得她看着挺普通的，我单指外表普通。当然，这是个见仁见智的问题。我就不抬杠了。
