殊的行业特点，公立学校更易拿到项目，牛教授众多，且financial aids充裕。
从学科完整齐备，实验设备，工程院院士数量角度看： UC-Berkeley，UIUC, UT-Austin,Geogia
Tech真正实力要比Stanford强很多。Stanford强在师生比例，（对外行来讲的）学校名气。 其实你
朋友孩子的offer里面UIUC,Geogia Tech非常不错，应仔细考虑。是块金子，在那里也会发光。
在学术界里，真正讲的是自己的research,老板，学校名气。Stanford名气不
错，但客观的将，还不是独步江湖的名气。Faculty面试时全是内行，对全美各个学校科研情况了如指
掌。Stanford名气不会占什么优势。
Stanford最臭名昭著的是给你一个学期1/4的TA，RA之类，而且financial aid很少，很

我在FPNC San Jose site 做过两次Clomid IUI，都失败了。我的的主制医生从来也不
给我分析原因。我LG的精子morphology normal forms 是 0%（Kruger）。他也认为没
关系，说volume ( =5ml) and motility(=49%) 是OK的。
我们已经36了，想上IVF。但是我想换家医院。我本想试试Stanford，可是我看了楼主
妹妹的分析，我有对Stanford 比较失望了。楼主妹妹在Stanford 和我在FPNC的感受都
是相似的。
我保险不包IVF。两家clinic 对我的区别就是价钱的差别了。我的保险是Anthem PPO，

大约十天前，北大生命科学学院院长饶毅在Stanford给中国学生博士后介绍国内生物医
学界情况。
地点是BioX的报告厅。内容讲的挺好。
本人平时乃老潜水员，没时间发帖，刚刚看到有人介绍不符合事实，应该纠正。
饶毅展示了两张照片，说他是Stanford的家属，二十多年前在Stanford宿舍住过，他不
是代表中国或者北大来招聘，而是作为过来人，给大家介绍情况。
他开始就说明，回国不回国，是你们个人决定，他不是来招聘。来访湾区时，Stanford
的中国学生要他来讲，他愿意和大家交流信息。到最后结束时，他还重申了不是招聘这
句话。
他比较了198几年的美国和中国，2010年的美国和中国，从衣食住行，到科研单位条件

势是Mich/Texas很难比的。如果老板是大牛，那么工作什么的根本不用愁，Stanford的
学生大概考虑更多的是怎么开公司。。。当然，除非老板mean，或者方向dead。不想开
公司，想走学术道路，stanford的牌子找教职也沾光吧？
人生能有几回博，风险哪里都有。有拿fellowship的实力，认真努力点，别玩的太猛误
了事，总归会搞定老板和qual的。而且，Stanford的smart kids很多，更加
intellectually stimulating。而且stanford校园漂亮，湾区气候宜人，生活丰富。。。

父母加上我本人。最好是furnished的房子。2010年2月开始，先租半年。最好小区比较

，所以具体事情要再问问系里。今天收到秘书的信说stanford的standard postdoc
visa是J1, 所以要办J1.
现在我们为这件事情很心烦，有几个问题想请教大家:
1. 请问Stanford的postdoc可以办h1b吗？如果有这样的先例，那么是怎样的程序和步
骤，petition的理由应该怎么说呢？对于job title有什么要求吗？如果有stanford的
前辈来指点一下就更好了！
2. 如果办J1的话，以后如果要申请J1 waiver 是不是一定要回国重新签证才行？我们
看到好像J1 waiver的要求是必须从国内拿到的J1签证，如果是F1转成J1，也能办
waiver吗？

发帖数: 264 | 36 LD准备2月份去Stanford做postdoc, 他12月份答辩通过，但是毕业论文还需要一些修改
，估计还要半个多月才能修改完，所以还没有final submission
昨天Stanford秘书发信说postdoc appointment必须提前4-6星期递交材料，而且还需要
毕业证书或一封completion letter来证明已完成phd program, defense和
dissertation submission. 今天LD去找系里的DGS写letter,但是DGS说这封信只能在完
成最终论文submission之后他才能写，这样就等于LD只能在约3周之后拿到信，再等4-6
周完成postdoc appointment, 也就是说最早3月份才能开始postdoc, 但是Stanford的
老板说过希望能早点去，所以我们现在很为难很着急
觉得很疑惑，所以想请问一下版上的同学们，是不是Stanford的postdoc一定要在论文
提交之后才能开始啊？似乎挺多人在答辩后都不能马上能递交论文的，不知道有没有人
有类似的经验呢？如果没有这封信的话，是否一定不能处理appointm |

universities in China. That may happen as Notre Dame and Stanford have
discussed playing their 2013 football game there.
The game is currently set for November 30, 2013 at Stanford Stadium in
California. If the two schools agree to the location change, it’s likely
that the game would be played earlier in the season.

Scott Frost, the Ducks’ offensive coordinator, played quarterback for two
seasons at Stanford, and his first collegiate touchdown pass was caught by
David Shaw, who is now the Stanford head coach. The touchdown pass came
against Oregon in 1994.
In September 1994, freshman Scott Frost intercepted a pass against San Jose
State as Stanford's starting safety. Later in the game, coach Bill Walsh

发帖数: 698 | 49 对于stanford这样level的school，申请人里综合素质好的一大堆，到一定bar后看的不
是成绩分数之类的了，而是what can you contribute to the stanford community，
能使得stanford增加diversity或者某方面更杰出等等。普通的社会公益活动都没什么
用的，要有很强的突出点才行。从这角度看ariel有明显的卖点，何况stanford非常重
视collegiate体育。所以没申请到比较遗憾，也许申请材料有硬伤（比如只会打球，没
别的了），也有时候只是运气问题，毕竟录取率太低，admission committee under-
staffed，过程很随机的。。

Stanford track &field, Campus drive (side walk), and the Dish paved trail,
back to Campus drive/the Oval, single loop ~8-9 miles. Try to 满足各种口味，
可以跑track, MFA, tuneup, taper, long run, 或者观光 campus drive, 或者hilly
dish 多跑几圈 。。。。。
