you know why. because all the old magnetism guys and superconductivity guys
are chasing funding down to spintronics. they have hot money and they need
students.
what's the future? I don't know. but one thing i know is that there is no
safe-forever field. you always need to switch to some new and hot areas once
in a while, otherwise, you loose ur job and ur hope. |

发帖数: 4074 | 16 物理界基本上是被funding牵着鼻子走的，尤其是近二三十年，做物理的
人越来越多，而科研资金增长却跟不上，再加上生物以及很多交叉方向在
规模上的爆发，物理的资金环境差了。
控制科研资金的，按照我老板的话来说，基本上是一些不懂科学的律师出
身的政客，没有什么耐心。你高温超导吹得再厉害，纳米管哪怕能登月，
给你十年时间，如果没有什么应用前景，让他们可以对公众sale，funding
就基本给砍掉了。这也是为什么nasa的钱还是比较有保障的，因为这是人
家总统先生准备树的标兵啊。
工业界以前一直是另外一个科研支持的主要力量，但现在公司换手太快，
比这个研究，发现，到应用的周期还短。换句话说，投资得不到回报公司
就转手了。所以很多公司基本上不做基础研究，顶多专注于应用研究。
从高温超导，spintronics，纳米材料，graphene，这一路下来，每个方向
基本上是先对公众和政府sale；然后国家给很多投资，很多组都能分到一
勺羹；最后由于很长时间内没有进展后，funding缩水，只能留下那几个成
名的组；大多数人开始做另一个sale——又是一个类似的循环。

教授反套，问愿不愿意去他们实验室，好像是刚成立的，很缺人，是做 Femtosecond
laser spectroscopy and Terahertz spectroscopy of semiconductors 的。不知道这
个方向前景怎么样，我是想着phd毕业后在工业界找工作，大家看看哪个方向更好呢？

现在离毕业还有1年左右时间，想直接和PI联系有些时间不对劲，所以上这个版问问
spintronics博后这行的行情，至于水平吗，非US的博士哪能和各位在US的大神比呢，
就是做出器件，STT-RAM，oscillator之类的，发个jap，IEEE trans on mag之类的各
位大牛不屑一顾的杂志，不知道这些我说的详细不？不可能有什么惊天动地的动机，也
不能抢各位的饭碗，也没那个能力，就是去US学习学习。 |

David Awschalom 是spintronics的大牛，他的组在spin injection和spin detection
方面可以说是全球领先的。他是采用光学的方法进行探测spin的，该方法虽然很有说服
力，但是离应用还是非常遥远。spintronics现在走向一个比较艰难的时期，主要就是
因为spin inject后如何进行有效的detect是一个挑战。在没有更新、更容易应用的方
法出现之前，Awschalom还是这个领域的执牛耳者。
Ohno原来是Awschalom在IBM的合作者（应该是博士后），他们现在都是spintronics的
牛人。
不过，据我了解，Awschalom不是很好相处的——当然，大凡牛人，脾气或多或少总会是有点的。 |

术，据说o.o9都已经早出来了，何止0.18，0.18的技术早就经美国允许出口到中国乐。这
只是芯片的运行速度。好像还没有达到人们所说的spintronics的状态，这项技术好像要
用到手机呀或者其他方便的电子器材快速下载多媒体。我刚刚还听同学说，他要做的实验
，需要在很低的温度下做，设备刚刚买回来（好像是在4k温度下），不过有可能是做光子
吧，最近说利用电子（或者空位）的读写速度已经达到极限，要想办法利用光子。不知道
是不是？

。而且这里很多人说做计算前景比较好。LSU的Prof也说以后可以有很多领域可以去，
包括bio－phys。
但是我的疑问是自旋电子不是也是很热门的方向吗？为什么这里的人不看好
spintronics？
另外想问问有经验的前辈，是不是学多体理论，以后很容易转到其他方向？比如多体转
到spintronics。

目前第一作文章只有一篇JACS，一篇准备投PRL或类似档次的期刊。
方向是纳米磁性材料，以后想找物理类材料类的位置。
目前打算先去做个博后，问问大家的建议，
做博后的方向和目前的方向有差距是好事还是坏事？
我对STM在spintronics方面的应用比较感兴趣，初步打算是想和我现在对研究结合起来
，德国有个学校的研究在这方面很前沿，但是缺点是我以前从没用过STM。
BTW，我目前在德国，博后是否应该首选美国的名校或牛组呢？
