另外从肉算到电算,引入了一个新的基本层面的问题,就是对 computability
的思考。
肉算时代,只有数学家精神病吃饱了没事干才思考 computability 的问题。
对于正常人而言,computability 就是肉算到吐血前,还能算多久的问题。
电算时代就不一样了,都喝了五杯咖啡了,电脑还没出结果,你丫到底是关机
走人去幼儿园接娃,还是继续喝咖啡?。。。这个问题太简单粗暴了。。。
最最简单的例子,为啥要区分有力数和无力数(有理数vs无理数)?你小学
体育老师没告诉你无力数就是让你数到没有力气的破玩意儿么?
复杂一点的例子,为啥现代数学的四大蜘蛛是 axiom set theory,
proof theory, model theory, recursion (computability)

当然做题环境没法 improve,因为 preteen 的娃,不想觉得 isolated。
另一方面,我们的做题环境也不是太差。distraction 的更重要因子是,
普通人不会太喜欢 solve math problem,说白了连我都不能搞很久。
而我觉得,很多情况下大伙儿误认为 solve math problem 不需要很多
brain inhibitory attention mechanism 的原因,很可能是因为混淆
了 repetitive math-training vs "real" math-problem solving。
而 repetitive math-training 的确不需要很多 brain inhibitory
attention mechanism。
或者用大众喜闻乐见的比方,我觉得就好比古人云:“小和尚念经,
有口无心”。这 “有口无心” 其实就是 repetitive math-training,
我都可以 “有口无心”地 烧一整天的香都没有问题。但 “有口有心”,

俺的意思是说,jigsaw puzzle 虽然有其 spatial perception 和 problem solving
还有 imagination 集三者与一身的优点,但也有其变化较少,以及限制于 (peusdo)
二维空间的缺点。
而作为农民,升级为 地主v1.0 以后,不能老想着每天能吃十八碗白米饭,因为十八碗
白米饭还是白米饭不是?
当然,技术而言,在 jigsaw puzzle 之后,似乎没有集 problem solving 和 spatial
perception 为一身的玩具了。
problem solving 可以考虑一招鲜的 chess,可以 solve endgame puzzle like a
machine,也可以 play game with AI like a magician。这玩具应该可以撑到小学二
年级。
三维 spatial perception 可以考虑 building block / lego (三岁四岁可能考虑大号
一点的),以及各种三维空间 building tool.
Imagination 好像没啥 routine 的玩意儿。老... 阅读全帖

我在头疼我家大娃的内驱问题。。。虽然很多人认为内驱的第一因子是性格,
但我不这么认为,我认为内驱的第一因子可能是在于能不能相对自由容易地
处理 mental objects。。。或者说,可能跟 mental representation
有一定关系。。。

具体而言,比如欧氏几何,我觉得内驱不够可能是不太能自由的看到和处理
“直角” 和 “平行线”(就好比一个人跑步但腿迈不开)。。。这最终可能归
结到第四公理和第五公理。。。
但这可能不限于第四第五公理(这两个 mental object)。。。有时候小
时候的成绩不能完全说明问题,因为 late bloomer 的存在。
一个例子是我家小娃的酱油 chess 看起来并不比大娃学得更快或者更好
(因为不是老邱教的?),但是似乎小娃(在相同的年龄,在同样有指导
的学习环境下),小娃 mentally solve "mate in 2 puzzle" 似乎更
mentally easy / free 一点,虽然不见得能 solve 得更快更好... 阅读全帖

I don't think so. There are some problems which can't be solved by
the science, and I, among others, call them "philosophical problems".
For me, they can't be really solved: they simply change their "faces"
if someone thinks s/he solves them in one way. Sometime, they are not
problems for us "anymore". This is not because we have solved them, but
because we neglect them. Unfortunately, we can't always do this.

My point might be different from yours. Although I think that there
are many problems which can't be solved by science, or by other means if
we use the word "solve" in the sense that E=MC2 solves the problem of
using nuclear power, yet I feel that philosophy or religion have their
own way to handle these problems. These problems can't be in the above
sense solved by philosophy or religion, but as I mentioned before,
they can be handled more beautifully and reasonably.

很多人相信人死之后,其意识并不会立即消失,而是以灵魂的形式飘荡一段时间,并且
有可能再次转生为人。这个说法没有任何直接的科学证据:灵魂活动似乎根本没办法用
仪器测量,而且现代科学认为人的一切意识都是大脑的硬件实现的,根本不允许脱离肉
体的意识。而在我看来更重要的一点,则是现有的科学理论已经能够很不错地解释整个
世界,似乎并没有哪些事情非得用人有灵魂来解释不可。
或者,除了某些“小事情”之外。我们经常在网上论坛看到一些灵异事件的“经历
贴”,其中描述的灵异事件似乎只能用真有鬼来解释。在以宣传无神论为己任的科普人
士看来,这些经历就算再离奇,背后也一定有一个科学的,甚至是简单到可笑的解释。
但这样的态度显然没有让所有人信服。比如最近刘衍文老先生在上海书评连载《寄庐志
疑》,其中提到很多灵异事件,就对“科普们”对这些事件的可能解释表示了不屑一顾。
其实之所以长期以来都是“科普们”而不是科学家关注灵异事件,一个重要原因可
能不是科学家傲慢,而是这些事件实在很难认真对待。科学研究的第一步是证据。而鬼
,如果真有的话,他们的出现具有很强的随意性,几乎没法搞实验。网上的经历贴事实

跟儿子一起学Python,发现它表达力很强,很适合算24点这样的程序。网上搜了一下,
没发现一个像样的逻辑清晰,简洁,充分利用Python语言特点的24点程序。我习惯了过
程式,想学点函数式编程的实际运用,希望这里碰到高手。
要求:
写一个函数solve(lst,target,all)
lst是自然数列表,可以超过4。
target是24,也可以是其他数。
运算是加减乘除,如能加指数对数等则更好。
如果all是True,打出所有解答,否则打一个就够了。
程序行数最好不要超过50行,不然直接从C#/java翻过来没意思。
测试:
solve([2,3,4,5],24,True)
solve([2,5,7,11,13],19,True)
solve([1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12],37,False)

耶鲁教授马丁 施瓦茨(刚从弗吉尼亚大学搬到耶鲁)的论文:愚蠢在科研中的重要性
论点:施瓦茨教授的一个朋友从研究生退学去了哈佛法学院。原因是科研每天都让他觉
得自己很愚蠢,需要做些别的事情。
(我是十分同意这个观点。科研,尤其是生命科学这个活是非一般心里素质的人可以干
的,因为每天都会和失败打交道。长时间的失败磨灭了你的信心,意志和前进的勇气。
很多人选择了退出,很多剩下的人留下来并非心里过硬,而是生活所迫,所谓的科研对
于很多人来说不是理想,而是谋生的手段。)
施瓦茨教授也是这样感觉的,只不过是吐啊吐啊,吐习惯成自然就好了
如何解决这个问题呢?(我也不知道,看看施瓦茨教授的观点吧,虽然觉得他有点站着
说话不腰疼的感觉)

耶鲁教授马丁 施瓦茨(刚从弗吉尼亚大学搬到耶鲁)的论文:愚蠢在科研中的重要性
论点:施瓦茨教授的一个朋友从研究生退学去了哈佛法学院。原因是科研每天都让他觉
得自己很愚蠢,需要做些别的事情。
(我是十分同意这个观点。科研,尤其是生命科学这个活是非一般心里素质的人可以干
的,因为每天都会和失败打交道。长时间的失败磨灭了你的信心,意志和前进的勇气。
很多人选择了退出,很多剩下的人留下来并非心里过硬,而是生活所迫,所谓的科研对
于很多人来说不是理想,而是谋生的手段。)
施瓦茨教授也是这样感觉的,只不过是吐啊吐啊,吐习惯成自然就好了
如何解决这个问题呢?(我也不知道,看看施瓦茨教授的观点吧,虽然觉得他有点站着
说话不腰疼的感觉)

1-exp[-((1-x)/y)^z]=0.05
y(1-1/z)^(1/z)+x=2
1-exp[-((3-x)/y)^z]=0.95
Solve for x, y, z.
I tried with Maple, but got "Float(undefined)" response. I wonder if my system
is wrong or Maple can not solve it? I just use "Solve()" function in Maple.
Anyother good method to solve it? I don't know Matlab or anyother math program
.
Please help me!! It's urgent!!

Birds propose questions and frogs solve them. I do not see any meaningful
way to compare them. Taniyama et al proposed a conjecture, which Wiles et al
solved. Who is greater? Langlands has a great vision on modern number theoy
and proposed a series of fascinating conjectures, but yet has to wait for
some really smart guys to solve them, e.g., Drinfeld, Lafforgue, Ngo, etc.

我觉得,当你用微扰法的时候,已经假定了这个解以及它的导数们只有O(1)项以及
一些O(eps^n)项。所以,当A=1/eps的时候,尽管通解是f=c1 e^{-A x}+c2,
但是e^{-A x}在x=0附近导致f的导数非常大,不再是O(1)+ \sum_{i>0} O(eps^i),
所以微扰法的基本前提就已经排除了e^{-A x}形态的解。然后毫无疑问的你只能得到
一个f=c2形态的解。 这跟常识一致,因为e^{-A x}在x增大时很快就递减到零。
当然,我认为对微分方程来说,首先应该有一个边界条件,没有边界条件的限制,意义
有限。

这些是最近两个月每次面试完,给C同学(谢谢陪我一路哈~~)的汇报整理出来的。其实
也没怎么整
理...
大部分都是常见的题。有些常见的题就直接没列。还有些当时忘了的,现在更记不起来
了。
有些是电话上的,有些是onsite。题目有些没说清楚,大家将就,领会精神。
本来什么都没定下来的时候一肚子感想和经验,想着有一天搞定了,一定好好总结总结
