checking engine light on... and transmission warning on.. and car clearly
showed signs of sluggish.
we called the rental company and they said we can drive it as long as it
is drivable (of course, they are willing to replace it for another car if
we go to one of their office but they all closed at night).
The car has about 20K miles on it ..
so go figure about the rental car maintenance. |

Honda的trany问题的确很大,我的98Accord在最近两年也出了很多问题:北方腐蚀厉害,
power steering pump都锈光了,trany也是特别sluggish,冬天换p档还会震动一下.

back when i drove a 98 civic (and had ALOT of free time... ) my friend and i
did our own little study on shell vs chevron vs mobil vs arco. we'd fill up
our tanks full, reset the trip meter on our odometers, and write the
results at next fill. each brand of gas had 4 full tanks to get a decent
sample. my average'd results:
shell = 325 miles per tank
chevon = 310 miles per tank
mobil = 305 miles per tank
arco = 285 miles per tank

highlander, and pilot. I don't have much clue on big SUVs. And certainly I
would like to spend as little as I can to get something comfortable.
Overall Pilot is the worst. Very lousy interior, sluggish acceleration, poor
handling and very noisy. Basically a box with 4 wheels. But it is cheap and
the third row is usable.
X5 and MDX have very small 3rd row. MDX is also quite noisy.

不是general comparison of AT and CVT。有些AT也很sluggish，
虽然换档过去了，AT里面也有一块clutch靠飞轮带动，那个东西也是
靠摩擦，也可能slip。
当然摩擦肯定是CVT更多，transmission本身的橡皮筋感觉CVT更大，
与engine和transmission档次放在一起，就有overlap了。 |
