It’s been a two-day trek, but I finally made it to Chile late last night.
It was dark when we flew in, so it was hard to assess the effects of the
earthquake. The few people I was able to talk to said there were some areas
that had been greatly affected. They also noted that much of Santiago looks
OK on the outside but many buildings suffered a lot of structural damage
that can’t be seen.

科学朝代的兴衰：哈佛一个系科的故事
回顾科学史上一个学科、一个系科、一个团队的兴衰，不仅有趣、也引人思考：未来的
发展可以吸取哪些经验教训？
生物学一个突出的例子是英国医学研究委员会支持的分子生物学实验室，开创了分子生
物学、发明了广泛应用的单克隆
抗体、出现13个诺贝尔奖获得者…。
如此灿烂的科学朝代，也有消长：有时是自然消长，有时是外界变化，有时是自大顽固
，有时是杰出的科学家行政能力
很糟糕，有时是经验总结错误（把成功过程发生过的都误认为是成功的原因）…
我自己的专业神经生物学，西班牙的卡哈尔（Santiago Ramón y Cajal, 1852-1934，
诺贝尔1906）公认为现代神经
生物学之父；英国的伦敦、剑桥、牛津等大学对神经生物学、特别是神经生理学有突出

神经科学不算是一门年轻的学科，很早以前，人们就开始了对大脑的认识和研究；
但是由于我们认知的局限、研究手段的局限，我们对于大脑功能的研究还处在初步
的阶段，很多未知的东西都在等待着我们去解答。这里主要综述一下神经科学发展
史以及科学理论变迁之后科学思想的变化。
在神经科学的发展史上，主要存在着以下3个大的争论：
1、 关于大脑和意识的争论：大脑和意识究竟是相互孤立的还是还是统一的，意
识究竟是大脑的一部分还是游离于之外？由此产生了很多观点。包括孤立论观点、
同一论观点、平行论观点、二元论观点等。
2、 局部定位论（localism）和整体论（holism）的争论：特定的脑部区域是否
仅仅和特定的功能相联系，还是大脑以一个整体参与所有的功能体现。
3、 是否有除了视觉、听觉、嗅觉、味觉、和触压觉之外第六感的存在，即所谓
的灵魂，这是一个我们尚未深入研究因而一切还处于未知的领域。

其实来这里的目的只有1个，就是我突然意识到我在Chile快呆不下去了（似乎还剩2天
的visa期），于是抱着碰碰看运气的态度跑来visa extension（官方规定，至少在到期
前2周就要extension）……
结果~~~Chile真的是整个南美洲对中国护照最友好的国家啊（跟他家隔壁的那两个邻居
形成了鲜明的对比）~居然一分钱没花，只不过等了不到1h，搞定，哈哈哈~~~ |

写在前面：其实这篇我在TDP的时候就已经构思的差不离了，主要是当时是真的感觉受
到触动了。只不过当时我很美好的幻想着，大包子征文活动还在go on……结果今天下
午在cafe上网的时候赫然发现，似乎包子活动没了，555555……

下面正文开始~
这一次在Torres del Paine，给我触动最大的事情之一，就是这片土地的一些变化。两
张对比图，第一张是我2010年底去的时候拍的
而这第二张图，就是一周前拍的，两张照片拍摄的地点相隔不到5km，都在Paine
Grande附近。
曾经郁郁葱葱的lenga森林，就这样的在两年的时间里，变成了一片焦黑的土地，枯黑
的树枝张牙舞爪的伸向天空，似乎在悲壮的诉说着它们的痛苦与无奈。
