谢谢他发明了小儿麻痹症疫苗，也谢谢他带给San Diego美丽的Salk Institute
上面两张照片是Salk Institute 2010年50周年庆是Chihuly玻璃展的照片
“禅宗里说：“指月亮的手，不是月亮”。这句话常被用来解释诗歌的意义，诗歌是手
，但让你看的不是手，是月亮。建筑亦是如此。走进Salk，你什么“手”也见不到，只
有一个开阔的中庭，直面天空。中庭被抬高了一层，遮住杂乱的礁石灌木，让视线的前
方恰好只有远方。而远方除了海与天，一无所有。院子中央，一道水割开地面，笔直地
流向尽头的大海，流水朝宗。

但是不知道salk的博士申请时直接向pi申请还是申请program?
因为很多salk的pi页面上都有说到phd position available
看起来不大像普通学校完全从admission committee走 |

quota 卡，最后好不容易在匹兹堡大学找到个位置，给安排在医院地下室里。

seen. I know five or six of his postdocs and none of them have anything bad
to say about him. Also almost all of them went ahead to become faculty in
top tier schools.
Tony is wonderful too. He is like a library for signaling transduction.
Talking to him saves you time to check references.
I don't know the other PI you mentioned. But overall, most big names in
Salk are much more friendlier than other places. Much eas |

发帖数: 809 | 39 Salk 就在UCSD边上。基本上，Salk的教授也就是UCSD的教授。UCSD的学生，导师不乏
在salk的。而且还有一些神经学的PHD program是salk和ucsd联合培养的。另外旁边还
有一个institute of neuroscience，和ucsd关系也很密切。把这些算上来，学生的受
益远超过排名所能体现出来的。不过ucsd最近几年排名一直在下降了，不像以前，都数
一数二的。 |

陆faculty 都没有（也许我这个印象是错的），当然 salk 的faculty 总数就少，不过
还是有一点吃惊，不知是因为 Salk 以前不怎么招中国人还是有别的原因。 |

if averaged out by heads..anyway I don't have doubt about its being No1...
Berkeley, I am not sure...Also, MIT, RU, Caltech, salk might be a size of 1-
3 departments from harvard or berkeley...esp harvard, it is a monster...
Here is a link for the graduate school ranking, you can change to different
program...overall Berkeley is not even close to Stanford..., also one has to
