lg现在是post-doc，想跟老板提换个title,比如research investitor或者research
scientist之类的，但是可能因为h1b最低工资的限制，老板只愿意给换research lab
specialist，这个属于正式的staff，有人知道这个title好不好？我是说从职业发展的
角度，不是绿卡申请什么的， 听着怎么更象technician呢？以后还有可能换回
research scientist吗？

与若望《为 Research Assistant Professor 正名》商榷

若望在文中列出了 Research AP 和 tenure-track 上的 AP 的不同之处，
结论是 RAP 和 AP 没有本质区别，因此可以理所当然地把 Research 一字去掉。
在我看来，若望在文中列出的 1，2，3，4 虽都不假，但却都是些细枝末节，
而最主要的区别却被回避掉了。
最主要的区别在哪里？区别在于 Research AP 一辈子也不会被 tenure，本
质上就是个合同工，随时可能被辞退，饭碗随时被端掉。而 tenure-track 上的
AP 却大不一样了，有可能得到tenure，而一个教授一旦 tenure 以后，就永远
不会被辞退，而这，才是 tenure-track 真正吸引人之处！
若望不是告诉我们自己正在为摘掉 Research 的帽子而奋斗吗？要是 RAP
和 AP 没有区别，你还奋斗个啥劲呢？

是research school.
我答的是第一年teaching需要比较多时间准备，所以大概是50:50的比例，之后
teaching熟练了可以适当降低时间，比如降到40:60. 然后我还说了teaching和
research并不一定要区分的这么清楚，两者可以互相benefit对方。举例说我research
中做的project, 我可以弄出一个简易版本的，当做teaching时候的case study.
之前面的teaching school没问类似的问题。不过听他们意思是学年中基本不做
research, 只有暑假才做。 |

teaching center可以帮忙看看，必须找专业人士。除了自己的导师，有什么人比较合
适呢？
1. Committee的其他老师。
找他们，他们应该都愿意帮忙。但我的担心是，可能都比较忙，给了他们之后，不知道
多久才能有反馈。不过更主要的原因是，其实research一直都是跟着自己导师，他们也
就来参加一下需要的考试，基本不过问我的research
2. 系里的中国教授
他不是我committee里的，但是之前和他提过要申请faculty。这个人还是比较热心的，
但是不知道找他是否合适。因为具体的研究方向不太一样。
而且会不会被看了我的一些research的想法（其实也没有啥多牛逼的想法...）？他会
愿意share自己觉得好的research点么？以后可能是合作者也可能是竞争者啊...学术圈
是不是要避免这个？
3. 系里的中国博后
是个千年博后，小孩已经上大学了，他也似乎没有再申请faculty的打算。据说他当年

该去当faculty。 开始读博士的时候就是“动机不纯正”，原来没有想过要一辈子做科
研，只是单纯觉得博士学位很“酷炫”，就像有博士title，就算以后海龟了，当个公
务员都比较容易。 请拿research 当成毕生职业的 faculty 或者faculty 家属不要鄙
视我。。。。
学术界就是前6年累的要死，过了天牛就升天了的感觉,假期各种多，各种flexible,感
觉也挺适合女生做的。
但是，通过观察我们学校的research老
师，赚得挺多的，不管有没有天牛，都还是挺忙碌的，基本一周五天都在学校，早上来
开会，晚上还
要教课的。感觉没有科技公司那么轻松呀，可以随便work from home 之类的 。但是只
管teaching 的老师，基本没有课就不会出现在学校，爽的很，但是赚的稍微少点。不
管research 还是teaching, 都是铁饭碗呀。可是看身边年轻或年老的朋友（50＋）
，没有谁有失业的烦恼，就算雷掉了也是秒速找到工作。所以现在比较犹豫该走哪条“

要data support 就会联系research center. 然后researcher 提供信息支持。总之是
consultant先设计strategy。不是research设计。research相当于tech support.
薪水上来讲也差很多，高级的不清楚但是普通的researcher薪水要比consultant低很多

，否则基本别考虑research university了。
现在teaching school AP的tenure requirement里面基本都有点儿publication的要求
。现在水会水journal这么多，肯定能发出去。不过如果PhD的时候没做出什么来，为什
么还会对research很有兴趣。。。
Teaching school起码是3/3的load，没多少时间做research，也没有RA／postdoc帮忙
。再说工资少了点，地方偏了点儿。还不是很好找。 |
