You might already know that it is harder to be a professor in AU than in the
US, only 1 or none in a school normally. And there is no or really less
permanent job in universities (don’t know exactly), forgot how to call it,
indefinite or permanent continue, that means you still got chance to be
redundant? I knew that a professor been laid off 3 month before 60….

在5年拿到tenure前，如果校长叫你走人，你就走人，和corporate一模一样，工会不能
保护你的。拿到tenure以后工会稍微起一点作用。但如果performance不好有足够的
record，或者学校减员还是可以裁的。因为学区不好直接把学校关掉的都有。每年有限
额关学校或者put on probation的。有些不好的学区的学校，隔三差五的上probation
。做这种学校的老师，要么提心吊胆熬一年是一年，要么只有跳到CPS里好学区的学校
去。前几年经济不好
的时候，学校redundant的老师也很多。被裁下来的只好先做sub，如果做了一年sub还
找不到CPS里的其他学校工作，tenure就没有了
CPS的老师还被要求必须住在city limit里，在郊区安家不行。如果离开CPS系统，原来
的tenure就没有了，十几年教龄的换到private school或者suburbs的公立学校，工资
又一夜回到解放前，和两三年教龄的新老师差不多。跳槽都限制这么多。这些情况你知
道吗？
