42岁的阿卜杜勒(Abd)与35岁的妻子拉莎(Rasha)以及他们的4个孩子住在岛上8个月了。阿卜杜勒十分感谢苏格兰人民，他说很喜欢那里的天气，但是对于一直接受施舍的现状感到很羞耻。“刚开始我真的很高兴来到英国这个自由的发源地，这里的人都对我们很好，苏格兰真的很漂亮，天气也很好，我特别喜欢这里的冬天。但是六七个月过去了，我现在很郁闷很沮丧，这里什么也没有，除了待在室内和到海滨散散步，我们哪儿也去不了，这样的日子就是等死。”
阿卜杜勒计划前往格拉斯哥找工作，他说：“我没想到我们会来这个岛上。我以为我们会到伦敦或曼彻斯特。但每当我们说要到岛外去，就会被告知：‘我们花了一大笔钱才把带你们带来这里。’我觉得这是一个强制性的住所。我感到十分羞辱，我来这里不是为了让别人管理。”
