学到很多东东，也开始看in treatment, 是个很好的片子，谢谢。曾经看了一段时间
Frasier. In treatment 显然是个更现实，对了解这个职业更有帮助的片子.
现在想请教一下各位关于neurology 和psychiatry住院医的选择。
俺只是premed, 考虑住院医的选择对我来说太早了。但是有几个正在申请的医学院有类
似定
向招生的programs.如果进入该学校，同时也会有一个"conditional acceptance"到这
个学校的住院医。 也就是说，现在在申请医学院的时候就必须要决定将来的专科，而
且还要写相应的个人陈述。
俺的背景是中国的本科和博士。在这里做了n年博士后。一直在神经科学领域。研究过
药物成瘾啥的。对我来说，比较合适的是neurology和psychiatry.
个人很喜欢psychiatry.喜欢看心理学的东东。最近几年开始学习buddist psychology,

Package preparation:
US clinical experience - psychiatry OB or externship. B/c it is very special
, stigma towards it, with special respect, affect PS writing and IV. If you
have other experience (i.e IM / neurology), don’t hesitate to put it on.
Learn about psychiatry basic concept - first aid, wiki.

following suggestions can be helpful for current psychiatry residents.
1. PRITE: Psychiatry residents must take national PRITE tests yearly.
Usually the program coordinator will have the previous PRITE test questions

also take a look. For example, our program will down load all applications
in 2-3 weeks, and screen the candidates, and select the interview candidates
, most of candidates are from the first 3 weeks, but the program also
reserves some interview slots for very strong candidates,even they apply in

可。倾向申请这两个specialty，但是发现很多program两个specialty是在一起的，连
轮转都是在一起的，这种情况到底应该怎么申请啊？pd都是一个人。
看了以前的帖子，说psychiatry需要单独的externship，但是我以前做的都是primary
care，虽然说有很多neuro和psychiatry的病例，但是没有psychiatry的推荐信。这种
情况pd会考虑吗？
因为没有赶上6月份版主组织的talk，精华区也没有相关的记录，所以如果问题比较幼

之前的事且缓，想说说第一次没卖上之后的事儿。
去年：step1+ step2+2个月psych ob+2年其他科 hands-on
今年：以上+ step3+ 11个月psych hands-on
psych面试数： 2015（6~7） /2016（11）
我知道这些数字是match不可少的因素。但联系了因素相仿的5个psych candidates，无
一match上。这也成了我很想写这篇文章的原因，字里行间没准有个什么决定性因素。
- 突破防御
去年这个时候，光看到个“Sorry”就崩溃了，哭了整整一下午，用受害者心理可怜着
自己也同时指责着上天（原始防御）。到了傍晚，哭声静了，开始找头绪（换了个防御
）。可脑子空白，因为潜意识里自我感觉依然非常良好（依然原始）。于是改借外力了
，四处联系，可听不进评价的我依然很茫然。直到某PD的一句话触动了我（潜意识过度
意识），要STEP3成绩+6个月psych经验（意识入口）。而我没有，这才意识到自己不是
个“受害者”（突破防御）。防御突破了，move on也就没那么困难了.

的方向。 现在纠结到底应该将精力放在哪一个上，毕竟两个是看似有关心，其实很不

1. lifestyle：哪一个更好？据我所知，psych更好。你怎么看？
2. income: 从以前麦地的帖子来看，psych较低，但是我的一些美国朋友告诉我，
psych高得多，这怎么回事？
3. 申请的难易程度：哪一个更难呢？对中国人申请psych来说，什么是最大的需要攻克
的难点？是语言，是personality，还是对这个专业的理解和熟悉程度？还是其它？
4. 毕业后的就业市场：CMG做psych是否市场非常小？ |

from my school matched into psychiatry willingly. Never happened in the past
.
American medicine is money driven so no surprise why more ppl are choosing
an easy yet rewarding residency. (great life style)
A lot of FMGs are going after psych, mostly indians (my experience only).
Most of them have excellent scores/resumes and they do speak decent English.

我现在知道的是 Schizophrenia和Autism比较热， 弄出了很多相关的基
因，其中的个别基因，很火，做的人很多。做的深入的，很少做这些相关基因
的联系的。做大规模的GWAS的，弄出很多基因，但是，都是简单的相关性。感
觉有很多可以做的，似乎有瓶颈。。。。。。。

observership in the United States, because my connection here only could
provide it. I apply for Psych this year and am worried about my experience

Psychiatry is piece of cake. It can be readily used as back up.
Well, yes Psych is normally not as strict on YOG as IM (although getting
more & more strict nowadays), not research oriented as Path, but it does not
mean you will have more chances to get in psych with inadequate dedication
and
preparation.

residency program的PC, 打电话问externship. 她会给你发要填的表，然后还要面试
。有个印度的MM在那做了4个月externship进了Psy residency program. |

LIJ 是 short for Long island Jewish hospital
Psych对成绩并不看重，U里的psychiatry知识比较浅显，所以成绩对psych没有太大指
导意义。Program的要求基本在能step1 200+ step2 220+，step3 pass就行。这也是为
什么需要有半年的psych经验。真正Psych的学习是从临床跟病人的交流开始的。
毕业年限- 我还算年轻。年限短（5年内）自然会有帮助。但“经验”的作用远大于甚
至可以掩盖“毕业年限”的作用。
英语能力- 我有优势，词汇量，语法能力不如前辈们， 但口音和用词的新鲜度可以很
美式（孩童时在美国念过书）。
但这些数字只是入门，不会造就一个psychiatrist. 我感觉Psych是一个需要抛下
package的观念，沉下来修行的学科。我有着难得的经验和真心，让我能很清晰的说出
psych不完美的地方，并告诉PD它如此不完美我还爱着它的原因。我有着不差的悟性和
观察能力，能比较坦然的面对跟自己的“不同”，并且迅速在其中找出共性。一天天，

放在package里是一定有用的，纯psych出身，杠杠的，所谓的commitment不在话下。
可“有多少用”这个问题一直是个难题，毕竟美国的psych跟国内的psych在很多方面是
截然不同的-人权，环境，stigma，治疗师角色等等- 导致跟病人和家属的交流方式，
获取病情信息的渠道，用药的先后轻重，之后的心理治疗都不太一样。更别说用英语去
表达。所以program会更看重在当地的psychiatry学习。 |

located near Dover, Delaware.
It's the 2nd largest city in the state of Delaware, with Chinese community,
although considered as medically underserved, but certainly not rural.
Good school district for kids and job opportunities (pharmaceutical
companies, etc) for spouse.
The leading psychiatrist is CMG and very nice.
