started: What's your favorite movie opening scene? As the old
proverb goes: Well begun, half done. A good opening for a movie
can certainly nail the audience's collective butt in the seat, which
is quite a big deal in particular once it starts its run on TV.

“莎士比亚几百年前就说啦：一夜就可以造就一个暴发户，三代才能培养出一个贵族。

其中的一个typo显然不是问题，但看了这句英文感觉有点怪怪的，而且nouveau riche
，aristocrat这些词感觉似乎与莎翁的时代不太相称，便借助于字典作了一点词源学分
析。根据韦氏字典，Origin of nouveau riche，French, literally, new rich，
First Known Use: 1801，再根据牛津字典，aristocrat，Origin：Late 18th century
aristocratie (see aristocracy). 而莎士比亚(1564–1616)是英国文艺复兴时代的人

有人记得2003年1月在I95高速Fairfield段的车祸吗，一群耶鲁棒球队和橄榄球队的学
生从纽约开车回New Haven，在结冰的路段和一辆失控的卡车拖车相撞，三个学生当场
死亡，重伤的六个学生中又有一个次日不治而亡。当时学校取消了一切体育活动，全校
默哀，管本科生的校长说白头人送黑头人尤其伤心，这些都是风华正茂的最优秀的孩子。
上周末，车祸幸存者之一的Brett Smith在学校教堂Battell Chapel做了个演讲，他刚
刚毕业。他车祸后大脑受损，跟不上耶鲁的学业，就先去一个community college读书
，慢慢恢复。08年再回耶鲁，从头读起，今年学成毕业。他家是教徒，他以前不信教，
因为他爸在空军里做，频繁搬家，所以他从没受洗过。他车祸住院时Battell Chapel的
