I do not understand certain people's taste:
Zhang's achievements would not be undermined in any sense by Maynard's
results: even Maynard did obtain better results using a different method.
The point is this result is several month later. Most importantly,
infinitely many pairs of primes with bounded gap is confirmed when Maynard
obtained his result, by Zhang's theorem; clearly Zhang's theorem is the
first milestone. People can say that Maynard reproved Zhang's theorem,

polymath我不清楚,我看的只是一些国内学生的blog.
Compressing sensing,我可以断言Tao不是获得credit最大的.
西班牙数学会是Candes作的报告.论文集前面贴的就有.你说Tao独占,
这是错的.
信号处理有个杂志有年什么奖,也是Candes和他老板一人一篇总结文章.
相比较而言,Tao在compressed sensing的讲座并不多.曝光度相对而言很低.

在你说的这些例子中,1和3属于人的manners,这方面Tao的确无可挑剔,可以说IQ高EQ
更高。
2的polymath project和4的compressive sensing,都是一群人共同参与并作出贡献的
,Tao都是involved。但是你发现没有,Tao获得的credit是最大的,对于外行而言,甚

呵呵,你还真说对了。polymath还真就是在tao的坚持下没有公开author list,署名用
的假名D.H.J. POLYMATH,这么做貌似高风亮节,但最终就是他实质上获得了最多的
credit。此事见他自己的blog:

还有另一件事:HP labs一个家伙给了个NP!=P的错误证明,由于cook老糊涂了说了句靠
谱,引起了当时一番热议。这件事中tao的表现也让人有点大跌眼镜。本来没他什么事
,他也并非此领域专家,但他莫名其妙就掺和进来了,而且特别起劲,当时对此事的在
线时间和发言就数他是最多的,虽然很多很不专业,但就成了专家committee中貌似最
重要的一个人,来评判证明是否是对的,approach是否走得通。按理讲这么重要的一个
问题,不是自己的专业就不好冒充专业人士去做评判,毕竟事关全人类的事,个人怎么
青史留名的都该往后放一放,但他显然没有这么想。
原本对他印象不错,但经过这几件事情之后,总觉得他的聪明劲更多的用在了学术以外

这个确实太难了,因为方向越来越专。这种人称为polymath,最早的亚里士多德、达芬
奇等能够横跨人文科学工程,后来的牛顿可以横跨数学物理,庞加莱可能算得上算最后
一个polymath了,爱因斯坦时代其实大都是在拿现有数学工具使用。冯诺依曼虽然够牛
但主要已经偏工程方面了。
不过到了弦理论时代,理论物理和数学研究的实际内容已经是一样的了,从这个角度讲
弦理论学家也可以说是数学家。比如这书的作者比较大的几个贡献也是直接对相应数学
理论的贡献。但是也有物理学家支持直接把弦理论学家踢出物理界直接归入数学。。所
以他们不算polymath,而是学科本身融合了,或者说物理学变味了。。

费米、费曼这些和冯诺依曼同事过的顶级牛人回忆:一个他们自己要凭借计算尺、草稿
纸倒持几天的数学(主要是计算)问题,冯诺依曼凭心算半个小时齐活。
冯是当代学界为数不多的几个polymaths之一,在量子力学、应用数学、博弈论、计算
机诸多领域都有开创性贡献。
另一个天才polymath是图铃,不过还是没有冯牛逼。

白人挺虚伪的,嘴上说的是不争credit,实际做法是不让其他人基于zhang的方法发文
章。

我觉得这三家里最倒霉的是Polymath,可能到时啥都没捞着。
先不提抄没抄吧,这个让我想起了另一起一个动用巨大计算资源open sourse的大团队
(像Polymath)被一个计算资源有限的小团队(像Maynard,不是老张)击败。
像现在的刷下限,当年有个更热的计算Riemann-Zeta function零点的竞争。一个大团
队用了个不错的算法,同时又把全世界不知多少计算机连上来加快计算零点个数的速度
,运转很长时间眼看某个多少亿的“milestone”就要达到了。结果另一个小团队只用
了一两台普通机器,但用了一个更好的算法,没两天就超过的大团队当时创造的“世界
纪录”。大团队一看没啥意思很快就解散了。

我感覺當初成立polymath的本意 並不是想要撈到什麼 主要還是對數學熱愛 想知道這
個方法到底可以找到啥樣的下限 說實在話 polymath的方法 幾乎不可能達到真正的下
限 而歷史上留名的很可能只會是從無窮到有限 從有限到2 以及簡單提一下當時有很多
人在找下限

曼去抢图灵的credits的意思。

之前网上有一个这样的评论:说如果要评世界上智商最高的三个人,谁会进入这个榜单。
有人就说了,如果有这个榜单存在,那么爱因斯坦和霍金肯定会在这个榜单之内。

陶哲轩从小出生在澳大利亚,他们家是从其父母开始移民澳大利亚的,所以是澳大利亚

陶哲轩小时候做了一次智商测试,数据让为他测试的人员都不敢相信,于是做了第二遍

陶哲轩的智商测试得分为225,这是目前已知人类里面最高的,超越了爱因斯坦和霍金。

2. 日本论发展条件比俄国差远了,可是和明治维新同步的民权运动让日本人在最短时
间内换成西方脑子,最快的时间内改变国家政体,效果可以说是立竿见影,跟着维新成
长的一代科学精英辈出,发现第一个激素-肾上腺素和梅毒螺旋体,明治维新最大的特
点是自由民主势力战胜专制藩阀政府。日本在日俄战争胜利后就彻底的黄皮白心了,而
且是西方列强承认的黄皮白心。
日本的前期和俄国的后期的发展历程和中国很有可比性,我得找时间讲,写长了也怕你

A second principle dates from a 1927 paper by Frank Ramsey, a Cambridge

polymath的事从没有关注过,但看你的链接,tao没有任何不妥吧?
两篇文章都有专门的wiki网页索引contributors
列不列作者在paper上,都是一堆人讨论出来的
而且我就不明白了,照你的想法,就是作者都列上,
读者不照样先看到tao的光环?
是不是都列上名字,然后tao不列名字你觉得才满意?
就算tao不列也有gower等dozen名人,你不照样显现不出来?
再进一步,我看希望一起借tao等光环的比你这种想法的更多吧?
最最不能理解的,你tm牛逼你自己发结果不就得了,这事
没有人逼你吧?
而且,问你一句,你到底有没有involved, 没有的话。。。日
关于那个NP问题错误证明的事我也关注了。说白了,你就是觉得
tao发言多了,你觉得不应该。
那就是说,不应该看发言有没有道理,只应该看你'出身'是不是搞

我基本上纵观了整个过程,我咋没有见人有你说的'大跌眼镜',
也没人说他外行。

说的好像出了tao都和你一样的心态,我怎么觉得
有的是人云淡风轻,就少数几个jijiwaiwai?
至于你说的 评价 或者 赢得掌声,我怕你是不敢正视的
最起码,你还是留给别人评价为好

project to systematically optimise the bound on prime gaps and to improve
the understanding of the mathematics behind these results. Please feel free
