Our leader used yates picket during weekend trip. I asked him to compare
this to MSR's picket, and he said:
In addition to all functions of MSR's picket, yates picket can also be used
as a snow fluke, which is quite helpful in soft snow. |

area of a picket is not as large as snow fluke
And, snow fluke is very tricky to use, without knowing how it works exactly,
this thing can FLY out of snow once one puts the force on.

1. cable is extra weight and bulk
2. runner provides flexibility as to where to sling the picket
one good reason to have cable: if you deadman it, you don't need to dig a
groove for the sling. but then I plant it much more often than I deadman it.
I have only deadmaned a picket once in the past 2 seasons in real climbs,
but planted at least a couple dozen times. |

星期五和星期天都不行，只有星期六是mostly sunny，于是决定星期五下班以后出发，
晚上能走多远算多远，星期六爬完回家。一起去的还有Guillaume的两个朋友，跟我们
去base camp一日游。为了加快rap的速度，带了两根60米double的绳子，因为不太清楚
路况是什么样的，除了攀岩的rack，还带了picket和ice screw，事后证明基本都属白
背。因为包已经挺重了，我决定不背帐篷了，带一个新买的bivy，其实就是个sleeping
bag cover了，顺便测试一下。星期五下午5点，给ranger station打电话，说还有空
余的permit，加之他们六点就关门了，觉得我们能拿到的机会还是挺大的。五点二十从
bothell出发，高速上堵的一塌糊涂，等我们开到marblemount，都快8点了。Ranger

发帖数: 379 | 9 从星期一开始就在天天刷周末Rainier的天气，到星期五天气预报终于比较明朗了，周
六晚上11点之前有30%雷阵雨的可能，星期天的天气貌似不错。就为了这个30%，纠结了
一个晚上，还是没敢背bivy，扛着我的整个帐篷上的山。周六早上6点从Bellevue出发
，7点半就到了ranger station。正碰上前面两组人在登记，等了半个小时才把所有手
续办完。办公室里有一张Glacier basin营地的照片，一只大熊整个上半身都探进一个
帐篷里，只剩两条腿和大大的熊屁股露在外面，好好玩——当然，这张照片的主要目的
还是教育人民群众不要把食物放在帐篷里… 到Trailhead准备出发的时候，有人发现忘
了带头盔，只好再回ranger station借，ranger让他到Schurman营地后管那里的ranger
借。这样前后一折腾，出发的时候都九点了。
开始的3.3 miles是循河而上的trail，出发没多久左侧有一个空挡，可以看到冰川之上
Little Tahoma的全景，
Rainier的山顶也能看的到，不过是藏在树后的。天上几乎看不到什么云，好天气看来

式等等。比如这个http://www.amlegal.com/library/ca/sfrancisco.shtml 或者这个http://www.newportbeachca.gov/index.aspx?page=137
很多地方装fence改fence还要申请permit. 你要的这种我看在很多地方都不行。

丝拧到post上就行了。picket可以用钉子就可以了。即使钉子出来了修补也很简单。
rail用螺丝还是有必要的。我邻居跟我接壤的fence有几处rail钉子都已经出来了。

很遗憾，我当时在IFC看上的牌子不是这俩，是一个叫做country furniture的牌子
scanteak的工厂店价钱还可以，我觉得跟别的地方也差不多
问题是颜色只有一种浅木色，很难和别的家具搭配，除非一整套都从他那里买
picket&rail号称是american style，工厂店有些不错的sale
但是颜色过深，我觉得小户型用这个还是显得家很狭窄。
我看上一个叫做country furniture的，在Sungei Kadut的三楼
样子我非常喜欢，只是问题是那个木头一看就是很劣质的木头 |

上一次去最后那一两mile平地走得人差点就崩溃了，endless & hopeless。这次征得
lead同意，背上了ski。好在leader领导下的pace本身比较慢，跟上没什么问题。
把ski扔在Devil's kitchen，然后从chute爬上去登顶。很严重的traffic jam，有一组
guide service的有十几人，这些人很mean，不让我们用他设好的picket，说什么“
This is my picket!"， WTF. 下去的时候在顶上等他们先下，他们一个一个地从上面
belay下去，花了无穷多时间。我们在寒风中雪地上坐了一个小时，人都快冻僵了，幸
好还有太阳。
等穿上ski也不是很爽，雪况很不好，icy & bumpy，加上第一次不认路，滑得也慢.
好不容易挣扎到ski resort lift area才爽了一把，比其他人提前一个多小时，趁机在
车里睡了一觉。
难怪背ski的人上山都比较晚，不用alpine start，都等着太阳出来多晒一会儿呢。 |

我的osprey Talon 44很能装啊。双人帐 + 个人所有东西 + 雪上用的绳子 + Picket，
只有Picket，垫子和ice axe需要外挂，头盔都能塞的进包里。腰带上的那两个小口袋
也很cute，可以放mid-size的p&s
很喜欢osprey的包，不过它的水袋太烂了，我用过两个，都是没几次就漏了... |

fence造地．
石头：cinder block或者wall block,
pro: 经久耐用，美观．cinder block里还能继续灌水泥固定rebar等好做大棚．可
以在上面走路．
con: 贵，重．得考虑到地面沉降.石头本身占面积
木头：cedar wood或者redwood. 不建议用treated wood因为化学品
pro: 便宜,大不了坏了重做一个.fence picket也可以,但薄. 也有厚的．我用
homedepot的cedar fence picket做的， １刀一块５ft的，做一个4x4的成本不过６刀．
con: 会变成灰色，刷漆也不是好办法．不如石头美观．raised bed之间要留个至
少1.5feet宽好走路 |

柿苗都长成了细高杆，统共收获了三棵指甲大小西红柿，都给娃塞牙缝了。从此能种出
足够娃吃的小西红柿成了我一定要实现的心愿之一。。。
去年买了房子，就想着今天开春一定要在后院种西红柿！可惜我家房子因为位置的关系
后院没法围起来，在哪里开快菜地似乎都不合适，再加上我还怀着老二，也不适合干翻
草坪变菜地这种活。想来想去最后还是决定做一个迷你的raised bed放在deck和房子夹
角的一小小块地上，这应该是最不影响后院景观的地方了。这块地前屋主原来种了一丛

来版上考古一圈，决定就用HD家的cedar fence picket做raised bed。又因为raised
bed要放在房子边上，种的又是西红柿这种根系深的菜，就打算做个三层的mini raised
bed，这样可以把西红柿种在最高那层。量了尺寸，算好需要的木料我就奔去Home
depot了，买了5块ceder fance picket加两根2*2的木棍，然后让店里的人按我需要的

不需要粘，不会漏水，网上很多，可以参考，优点是不容易坏，缺点是稍占地方。如果
床不需要太高，选水泥、石头也不错。
我是用cedar picket做得，缺点是稍薄了点，只有5/8inch厚。我的后院是有点微小坡
度，cedar picket长边才6feet中间还有1个stake加固的情况下，装满土还是略有点向
外膨出，打了两个铁桩子顶住才基本比较稳固，估计撑个3年应该没啥大问题。好处是
加高比较容易。 |

结果从那段文字里面，搜索一下所谓的“武装头子”的人名：Frank Kameny，
发现这个人不但从来没有犯罪，而且还获得过很多荣誉。

北弗吉尼亚军团此时进行了整编，由两个军分做三个军：郎斯垂特将军的第一军

在美国指使、日本右派挑衅下，日本政府无视中国两岸政府和人民的反对，竟然以政府
出面，收买钓鱼岛中的三个岛屿。这就将钓鱼岛的问题由暗变明，已经是国与国之间的
公开挑战。
这一次，美国方面的态度非常明显：美国官方一方面表示不介入争端；另一方面却声称
钓鱼岛在日美安保条约范围之内；而且，在今天钓鱼岛问题最尖锐的时刻，美国的国防
部长到日本签订新一轮的TMD（战区区域防御）协议（TMD是被中国认为是美国在亚太地
区对中国的战略围堵）；在日本签约TMD的第二天，美国防部长在北京表示：美国不是
围堵中国，只是希望中国能纳入交往；之后，美日又举行联合反夺岛演习，美国又在琉
球部署MV-22战略飞机用以防阻中国在钓鱼岛有伸张主权的行动，美国航空母舰又特别
开到东海、南海。这都表明了，日本的所以将钓鱼岛的争端从暗变明公然挑衅，是依靠
美国的支持；或者说，是美国在后支使，日本在前头叫阵，美、日都并不隐瞒自己的态

The more publicity the better. Media companies used China as whipping boy
for too long. This show just is so contrary to their stated values of
diversity and tolerance and human rights, that we have a duty to react
appropriately and err on the side of OVER-reaction to force their own
