down on their bribery operations in their country. Hopefully these
individuals will get a fair trial, OUTSIDE the state Indiana. BTW...didn't
know Lilly's research was all that valuable considering their pathetic
attempts at bringing new drugs to market. I can't wait for China to slap
them back, and hard!

Pharma? 有专利吗?有强大的drug candidate platform吗? 搞Pharma必须有很大的资金
投入,一般一期投入是不够的.Pharma的founder需要有很好的reputation,来吸引后期的
资金.美国的start-up pharma有很大的比例最终都关门了,只有很少数被收购或者获得
大公司的license,变成伙伴关系,再或者上市,大家都发财.
CRO? 有好的技术吗?可以建立可靠的信任度吗? 需要的资金相对Pharma要少的多.运行
的好很快就可以有赢利了.我的一同事半年前辞职自己开CRO去了,好象做的还不错.目前
国内呢成功的例子不少:北京的Bioduro, WUXI APPTEC.美国这边中国科学家也有做的很
好的.
实际上,WUXI APPTEC老总的故事对于搞Pharma还是搞CRO的选择应该是个很好的例子吧. |

说起CRO(contract research organization)，很多人对这个名字都不陌生，但具体做
什么的而且这两年为什么越来越热，认识就很抽象。说起CRO，不得不说“outsourcing
”。说起outsourcing，大家并不陌生，但也有误区：似乎outsourcing那就是把机会搬
到印度中国等劳动力便宜的地方。说错也不能算全错，因为outsourcing很常见的是IT
以及很多服务部门，比如call center和软工很多都在印度，而General Motor想

研发效率低下，follow-on, me-too药是一个接一个，已经完全背离了药物发展的科学
逻辑。现在的patent cliff，其实就是对长期Big Pharma背离市场真实需求的reality
check。从长期发展的角度，目前的困难其实是好事情，这逼迫着新药物，新治疗方法
的开发。比如说长期以来癌症的治疗一直无法得到重视，因为太复杂，市场动力不够，
现在那些cardiovascular,CNS已经做烂了，在寻求新的增长点的推动下，癌症药就一个
接一个出来，客观上这是对人类的贡献，也是capitalism的真谛。
在Big Pharma工作的人很多无法改变现状，只能期望能回到黄金年代，但是就象底特律
的汽车，最后生存者只能是技术的领先者，其余的，必然要被淘汰。成本的压缩是必然
趋势，尤其是在技术扩散的今天。
没有打击在Big Pharma工作的兄弟姐妹的意思，毕竟大趋势具体到个人身上总是有很多
不同，但是如果还沉醉在那种不现实的期待中，reality check是迟早的事情。

首先感谢laudhot童鞋的《不厚道砍价法》，省了很多时间和力气。不过事实证明我还
是太厚道了，对dealer绝不能手软。写写这次买车过程中遇到的陷阱，希望能对近期买
车的同学们有帮助。也欢迎大家补充。
1. dealer说车就在他们的parking lot里停着，一会又说刚刚卖掉了。其实车在别的
dealer那里，他们想卖high trim level的，不行再把车提过来。
总结：去之前配好自己想要的package，不能临时改主意被牵着走。多问几家dealer确
定车的位置。

engineer。学校一般，工作三年，还在排绿卡，现在一年16万多。我们这里今年新招的
fresh phd给14万多。认识的混得好的，三年拿到20万的也有。但一般要有7，8年的工
作经验才能拿上20万。不过也有工作5，6年才拿14万多的。这种是因为当年进来工资低
，也没跳过。拿到20多万了，再往上跳也不容易。石油公司，油服公司里各种专业都有
，不是什么职位都好。

行业今年的趋势来看的话你做IT应该是跟大数据应用有关的 JnJ可能是偏Pharma
business 而United可能是偏patient/insurance claim/甚至EHR EMR systems这些相关
的因为近几年value based和performance based reimbursement这个观念比较流行 所
以好多保险公司会重视根据医疗后的patient outcome等等
我觉得这个机会不错 既然是一个Pharma公司和一个保险公司联合的项目 我猜应该就是
在搞value based reimbursement 应该是比较好的锻炼机会吧 但是还是建议从考虑选
择行业的角度去选择工作 如果进入医疗行业建议多学一些business方面的知识 如果加
入咨询还是要着重提升自己各方面的能力 |

北美药厂里做统计是一个正在大幅度萎缩的行业。原因有几条：
1.制药业整体不景气。这个原因众多，包括各大药厂明星药专利到期，和全世界尤其美
国的医疗成本控制，医疗改革。。。等等。总之，各大药厂从几年前开始大规模裁员，
统计部门属于被整体剥离的部门之一。

as it is required for FDA submissions.
2.由于制药业的整体不景气，整个制药业正在重新整合。整合的一个内容就是剥离非核
心业务。制药厂的核心业务是科研，不是做统计。统计，数据管理，IT等等环节正在快
速水平化整合到几家大pharma services公司手里。

研发效率低下，follow-on, me-too药是一个接一个，已经完全背离了药物发展的科学
逻辑。现在的patent cliff，其实就是对长期Big Pharma背离市场真实需求的reality
check。从长期发展的角度，目前的困难其实是好事情，这逼迫着新药物，新治疗方法
的开发。比如说长期以来癌症的治疗一直无法得到重视，因为太复杂，市场动力不够，
现在那些cardiovascular,CNS已经做烂了，在寻求新的增长点的推动下，癌症药就一个
接一个出来，客观上这是对人类的贡献，也是capitalism的真谛。
在Big Pharma工作的人很多无法改变现状，只能期望能回到黄金年代，但是就象底特律
的汽车，最后生存者只能是技术的领先者，其余的，必然要被淘汰。成本的压缩是必然
趋势，尤其是在技术扩散的今天。

Big pharma nowadays are from bad to worse, so is the pharma/bio industry.
Big pharma reply on buying back their own stocks and giving high divident to
maintain their stock price. They still have cash, but the future landscape
is full of uncertainty. If big pharma are not doing well, so will biotech
and generic companies.

It depends on your personal preference of risk taking: If you like risks,
you might want to take this small start up because your stocks can be
shooting to the sky once it becomes very successful, but it might die before
it reaches the sky.
On the other hand, if you like to be safe, big pharma might be a better
