Looking at the available evidence, I strongly suspect the scenario involved
the following.
() The driver had (probably inadvertently) moved the shift lever (to the
left) from "D" to the manual sport mode. Once in that position the gear
selector cannot be moved to "N" without moving it to the right again. In a

If the letter from his wife is true and she somehow have to share hotel with
