Md. Panel Advances Marriage Bill

Maryland senate chambers The Maryland senate judicial proceedings committee
voted 7-4 to legalize marriage equality, advancing the proposed bill to the
full senate next week.
The Baltimore Sun reports that senate president Thomas V. Mike Miller told
his colleagues to keep a flexible schedule next week to allow for the
anticipated lengthy debate. He said the final vote would be February 28.

Jon Corzine to compel him to testify at a hearing next week about his role
leading the investment firm MF Global, which collapsed after a disastrous

们不肯repaint）还弄出了很多刮痕
费了好大功夫geico终于同意把roof, hood, trunk lid repaint一下
其他panel也有砸掉漆的地方，只是他们不肯repaint
这样的话会有色差吗？怎么知道非dealer的bodyshop有没有跟原色一样的漆？ |

不会辛辛苦苦的写和提交，reviewer要能看到（发现）哪怕一点优点，然后在comment
中提一下，这样人家被拒的心情也会好一点。 所以，good就是poor，只是人家看到那
哪怕是一点点地优点。 |

仁兄就不好再在学术领域混了，那是明明白白的lie。
NSF的panel管的还是挺严的，人家email和当面都确认你不是H1B才会给钱。当然人家
也不会让你出示绿卡或者EAD，人家相信professional的人不会撒谎而已，而且还是
只为了区区1000多刀。 |

我最近的一个proposal (去年10月）被Panel highly recommended。program director已经推荐了，送了250字的摘要，没要budget revision。看最近的status已经送到grant office for award，是4月8号。说是还要等几周才会收到最终的Award通知。这种状态下还会有变数吗？等得让人着急啊。 |

1）见到了几位我在国内读研时候就已经如雷贯耳的业界的大牛。一个老中，一个老印。
刚开始心情那是激动无比呀。就差把衣服脱下来找人在后背上签名了。
后来一讨论，觉得大牛们好像也有他们不懂的。
2）PANEL里大部分人还是比较客气的。再烂的PROPOSAL也会给个GOOD。比如我。但是少
部分人就不那么客气了。POOR和FAIR给的那也是很随意的。不过有的PI（都是十几年的
FACULTY了）写的PROPOSAL那是确实让人看都不想看。
3）NSF的评审过程其实还是相对很公平的。找的这些REVIEWER里总有一两个人对某个
PROPOSAL是很明白的。所以凭花里胡哨地写点东西能拿FUNDING的机会也不大。
4）看到几个业界的大牛的PROPOSAL，不过第一轮就枪毙掉了。感觉就是为了赶
DEADLINE而写的。
5）知道了REVIEW的流程，也知道了什么样的PROPOSAL是EXCELLENT的了。发现中NSF 的
PROPOSAL是很难啊。首先你要写得好，这是必须的。其次是要有名气和好人缘。这是
必要的。
6）作为第二年快结束的AP，猛然感觉到前面的路真~~~~~~~长~ |

如果真的是有一个很好的想法，写得不错，就很有机会进
highly competitive了。进了HC基本上就安全了。如果落
在中间，在panel讨论中，junior的人会吃一些亏，大牛
会多一些机会。当然这是我个人的感觉，也不一定就是这样。 |

其实很简单，REVIEWER和PO一看你一下子PENDING着十几个NSF 的 PROPOSAL。大家心里
就都反感。首先就会质疑PI的能力，怎么可能同时HANDLE十几个PROPOSAL。大家心知肚
明，其实就是同样的两三个PROPOSAL七改八改投到N多不同的PROGRAM。这样REVIEWER对
PI的第一印象就下来了。俺REVIEW的一个PI就这样，有个PANEL REVIEWER就直接说这个
PI同时PENDING的NSF PROPOSAL太多，同时自己还拿着NSF的钱。不好好做手头的
PROJECT却忙着交十几个PROPOSAL。让人很难相信他能做好PROJECT。
其实说到底人还是不能太贪。NSF给钱是让人踏实地做RESEARCH。不是让你每年多写十
几个PROPOSAL。但是作为JUNIOR FACULTY，确实有FUNDING的压力。总之，个人感觉，
如果同时PENDING，最好别超过3个。而且应该集中精力就攻取一个。就是自己最擅长的
那个PROGRAM。
反过来看那几个在PRIMARY和SECONDARY的PROPOSAL，同时PENDING着很多PROPOSAL |
