I downloaded Oracle 9 from our universtiy.
And install it to my local computer ( windows XP)
D:\oracle\
Global DB name : MainDB
SID: MainDB
Now I have some problems about the JDBC and oracle thin server.
And I find the oracle takes a lot of resources of the computer.
After checking the processes, I find there are two java and two apache server
processes plus oracle itself.
The total of the resource cost is about 200 MB memory

吧，REPLICATION好像理论上能做，没经验，看到一个这样做的

现在在看公司系统的数据库基本的设置。公司有RAC, OID/OSSO, 有6台大的数据库
server。有production/test/development 三个环境。我除了做系统管理的工作外，还
要协助另外一名新来的dba做诸如重启数据库，重启服务，加一个rac节点之类的工作。
感觉自己明显oracle这一块不熟悉。
请问大家，如果要从基础学起oracle dba的话，从那本书开始看比较好？

一般是先建表（tables), 然后开发data entry, data checking/editing的forms, 然
后设计reports, queries. coding部分用VBA。
在学校接触过一些oracle，但主要教的是SQL中的建立表格，query数据，loading数据。
我想请问，大家在公司里做oracle的工作，data entry, data editing，data
checking, reports的用户界面,都是用什么做的？是Oracle自带的软件吗？
用Microsoft的Access打比方：
forms, reports, coding(VBA)的开发工具都是什么？是Oracle的某个部分，还是其它
软件？
如果想把一个Access的数据库（我上文中叙述的那些功能）用Oracle来实现，我至少需
要哪些软件呢，或Oracle的那些products呢？

oracle这个大evil，从来不创新。买了sun就是稀罕java和mysql这两个法宝，可以到处
敲钱。
mysql当年多火爆。现在基本没人敢用mysql了，开源社区谈mysql色变。大家搞开发首
选postgresql。mysql基本上已经死了。
java上面，oracle到处碰瓷，碰巧抓到了google的android用java，然后就狠咬一口。
google没有办法，只有自宫android，改用chrome os了。
话说java虽然是GNU license，但一开始里面被sun下了很多专利陷阱。小公司用用无妨
，大公司用迟早被oracle的律师找上门。所以java和mysql一样，迟早被oracle弄死。 |

少了。。。apple和oracle给了offer，apple是做ios flash storage software，比较
low level，面试感觉重点在embedded system和flash特性上。oracle是data
replication across different sites（例如加州和德州），用parallel/distributed
system，一点network的知识，一点security的东西。我觉得oracle的这个组可能跟符
合我想转high level软件的目标，不过这个组也是用c。。。我应该会工作了继续学纯
软件的东西。。。
apple的名气应该更大吧。薪水都要谈，apple说等oracle有了具体的薪水告诉他们。。
。oracle打算明天谈薪水。。。
去哪个公司更好呢？另外怎么谈薪水？已经读了三年的phd，但是打算quit拿master走

有点郁闷，oracle只给了108k，其他的可以忽略不计。我今天问recruiter可不可以加
到112k（因为他以前说过fresh master最高这个价）。我觉得可能oracle的这个组确实
比apple的组好，apple的毕竟偏硬件，是os以下的level（interact with os，
filesystem，和hardware groups），而且是mobile device，oracle的毕竟是os以上的
level（interact with os，filesystem，network，security groups），是network
based storage software，是不是oracle的更有前途和积累的技能更有用？？？
但是105k的RSU，每年25%, 等于前4年是120k+26k=146k啊，oracle只有108k（就算给我
加到112k，也没涨啥。。。），差别略大啊。。。哪个更值得呢？ |

， 不过并不代表所有的组都闲， 至少我去的ST的组还是很忙的，做的东西也比较有意
思，至于Oracle的pay确实低于market,而且呆的越久工资越低于market， 所以去
Oracle别呆太久， 作为跳板就好了， 我跳出来的时候还是容易找工作的， MSFT,
Amazon, Yahoo, Google都去了onsite.对于软件工程师来说， Oracle显然是比Apple更
好的选择， lz要是去Apple的话， 将来的路会越走越窄的。 |

一直不明白Oracle轻松活少是怎么得出来的。这是变相骂FLG是傻逼么？人家Oracle的
员工轻松活少，每年revenue还很多。FLG的员工每天累得半死，revenue还不一定比
Oracle多，那不就是说FLG的business是扯淡么？
这个世界上哪有天上掉馅饼的事。Oracle每年的revenue摆在那里，员工如果不累不辛
苦怎么可能做到。我不知道你们都是哪里认识的工作轻松的人，反正我认识的都很努力
，加班不比哪个公司少。 |

1. 总体上这几个offer没有一个可以达到“无脑选XXX”的水平，不知道上面说无脑选
XXX的人是不是都是new grad，还是说你们都不关注业界的信息？除非这些offer中有一
个是FG级别的，否则不要张口就说无脑XXX来误导别人。
2. 可能老中还是带着国内那种名校情结来找工作，觉得只要公司名气大点，不管什么
职位和项目，无脑选一个老中认为很有名气的公司。这里暂且不谈论这个名校情结，仅
仅就amazon这个公司的名气问题，我觉得很多new grad就有一种错觉。无意冒犯，我认
识不少Amazon的朋友，从他们口中了解到一些amazon的信息。Amazon这个公司的产品，

either workstation or server does not matter. If you want
to use win2k, you need to install Oracle8i(8.1.6) which is
win2k compliant.
Normally Oracle DB client is for remote access to Oracle DB
server. It does not make sense to only install the client
if you do not have a Oracle DB Server installed.
In addition, it is recommended to have at least 128M memory.
On my machine, even it does nothing, Oracle DB service still

Oracle could not allocate the requested 64K memory. This can be caused by a
lot of reasons and the most likely one is memory fragmentation and Oracle
is still very limited by 3G address space. I do not remember whether VLM is
certified by Oracle on Windows.
Oracle does limit parallel engine's memory usage: each parallel operator can

我自己就是主做Oracle的，也最爱研究Oracle database internal
MS SQL Server和MySQL是工作所逼 ;-)
但是，我觉得对于一个新手，能找到Oracle DBA工作的可能性基本为0
MS SQL Server和MySQL却很容易找到小公司DBA的工作
当然有可能80％以上的时间在做development，20％的时间管管数据库

发帖数: 1511 | 43 如果安装在windows上面，过程中请先在windows上安装loop back adapter。那是一个
虚拟网卡，给你的机器一个固定的ip地址。google一下就知道了。
原因：因为oracle绑定机器的ip地址到数据库里面。如果你第二次开机自己的IP地址变
了，oracle就没法工作了。而且，oracle还没法完全uninstall。
个人经历：我安装过oracle10.0.0.2（大概这个版本，oracle网站下的，用来学习），
home, 绑定IP，不能完全卸载。自己电脑动态IP，第二次无法工作。后来格式化硬盘，
完全重装才行。
如果有人知道更好地解决办法，请介绍一下。 |

我见过几个月参加了几个oralce dba陪训就当了oracle dba的。
我见过连imp都不会用的oracle dba。
我前两天培训oralce老师说2002-03经济不好时，很多oracle dba需要身兼dba。develo
per，结果都跑来培训sql fundemental。（dba难道不会写sql？）
我还见过管50个table的sql server DBA, 连最基本的relational关系都搞不清楚。
甚至还有完全不懂db的sql server DBA（公司说是就是了）。
其实dba就是个title，至于能力全靠个人。
至于干不干的了不重要，重要的是通过面试，拿到offer，然后再学。 |

于是我决定更改Oracle User的密码。
Google了一下，据说可以这么改：
1) # su - oracle
2) $ id
uid=1001(oracle) gid=1001(oinstall) groups=1001(oinstall),1002(dba)
3) $ passwd oracle
Changing password for oracle.
(current) UNIX password:
什么是这个UNIX password? 是我的Ubuntu的root密码吗？为什么我输入后显示如下错
误：
passwd: Authentication token manipulation error
passwd: password unchanged
