记得几年前,《纽约时报》当时一对出尽风头的夫妻档,在多年报导中国、亚洲、和非
洲后,出了本书,叫做Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for
Women Worldwide (硬译:半边天——让世界范围内的妇女变压迫为机会)(2009)。
书名借用来自中国的说法“半边天”;书的前几页里还专门加一页,空旷旷只有两行字
:“Women hold up half the sky—Chinese proverb”。在全中国人民忙着改革开放
奔小康的“不经意”间,“妇女能顶半边天”被美国人宣布为一句中文成语!
据说有人做过调查,“半边天”原是湖南某地乡间的一个说法,后被借用,稍加改动,
作为“妇女能顶半边天”成为全国通用的口号。就算这个调查确有历史依据,但当时全
国的语境,即社会主义时期妇女解放的实践,才是这句家喻户晓的革命口号真实含义的
源头。
只愿从反面接受中国社会主义这段历史的人,自然对此源头讳莫如深。半遮半掩地承认
