记得几年前，《纽约时报》当时一对出尽风头的夫妻档，在多年报导中国、亚洲、和非
洲后，出了本书，叫做Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for
Women Worldwide （硬译：半边天——让世界范围内的妇女变压迫为机会）（2009）。
书名借用来自中国的说法“半边天”；书的前几页里还专门加一页，空旷旷只有两行字
：“Women hold up half the sky—Chinese proverb”。在全中国人民忙着改革开放
奔小康的“不经意”间，“妇女能顶半边天”被美国人宣布为一句中文成语！
据说有人做过调查，“半边天”原是湖南某地乡间的一个说法，后被借用，稍加改动，
作为“妇女能顶半边天”成为全国通用的口号。就算这个调查确有历史依据，但当时全
国的语境，即社会主义时期妇女解放的实践，才是这句家喻户晓的革命口号真实含义的
源头。
只愿从反面接受中国社会主义这段历史的人，自然对此源头讳莫如深。半遮半掩地承认
