the risks of their methods. I doubt whether the majority of them would
believe so blindly into the models. It is not that you can not use models,
but you must be fully aware of its limitation and weakness, the whole point
of "black swan" argument.
In fact, survey showed that ninety-five percent quants felt that risk
management was the same, if not a larger part of their job. That's street

时间翻译了，大家凑着看吧。她有个感想我是比较赞同的，就是人容易把政治和文化混
在一起，失去真正的分辨力。
她有个PAPER 对比文化对早期教育的影响： 到高中的时候西方教育所谓的兴趣不再
WORK了，学生辍学率开始上升，中式教育开始有优势，学生把学习当成挑战坚持下来了
升学率高。有时间给大家翻出来。
不知道我儿子以后会怎样的怪胎： 在学校老师强调激发兴趣，在家不学习几个汉字不
能睡觉不讲故事。

有报导说，英国教育考查团来中国时对中国的九九乘法口诀印象深刻。据说中国的小孩
比英国同龄小孩算术能力强很多。
一个自然的问题是，九九乘法口诀有什么神奇的地方？难道英国没有吗？英国当然有乘
法口诀。事实上任何一种文明语言都有乘法口诀，只不过不见得有中文九九表这么简洁
。本文要探讨的就是这个简洁在算术上的优势。
中国的高中生在国际数学奥林匹克上拿冠军已经不是什么新鲜事了。事实上，不拿冠军
才是新鲜事。有人认为这是强化训练的结果，不能真正代表平均水平。小学生的国际竞
赛不多，一般的小学生（不是选出来的那些）应该没有什么强化训练，他们之间的比较
应该有一定的代表性。英国教育考察团看到的差距应该是真实的差距。
或许有人要说，中国的家长在小孩没有上小学以前就普遍开始强化训练自己的小孩，所
以仍然没有可比性。那么我们再来看一般大众。根据我过去近30年的体验，美国大众的
算术能力是很难恭维的。毫不夸张地说，如果没有收银机，商店里面许多收银员不能地
准确找出零钱。反过来看中国的菜农，几乎从来不用计算器或纸笔。卖任何肉，菜或水

和twelve还有点12进制的影子的话，那么thirteen, fourteen, fifteen,
sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen根本就是非常规则的十
进制。另外你说到twenty, thirty似乎还有一点点道理,尽管傻子也能知道
thirty的前缀thir就是表示数字“三”的意思。 而且别忘了后面的forty,
fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety,也是非常规则的。
我觉得很奇怪，搞幼儿教育难道就非得纠住从一到十二这十二个数字不放么？
一个孩子从一到十这十个数字必须死记住，难道多了eleven和twelve这么俩
数字就造成了灾难性的后果？ |
