日前，学校校庆办公室收到了一封非同寻常的校庆贺信，
它是旅美南开校友会委托经济学院赴美学生为母校90华诞
捎来的祝福，它代表了全体旅美南开校友的共同心声。
旅美南开校友会包括美国大纽约地区、加州旧金山湾区、
大华盛顿地区、芝加哥及中西部地区、波士顿、印第安纳、
弗吉尼亚和亚特兰大等8个南开校友会。这些旅美校友
虽然工作学习在不同地区，不同的岗位，但是始终不忘母校
的教育和培养，同学的鼓励和帮助，始终不忘塑造他们人格

than 900 million yuan.
To build each university, at least 2 billion yuan for each university is
needed. Two universities need 4 billion yuan.

玉先生因病医治无效，于2012年3月11日3时45分在天津逝世，享年93岁。
陈茹玉先生灵堂设在南开大学元素所合成楼。

situation. One example is the recruit of overseas PhDs at the Annual
Meeting of the American Economic Association. There was no much improvement
in the past decade. I will go to the next meeting in Philadephia next
January. Hopefully I can see some improvement. |

of Tsinghua (Qinghua) University: hire a professor with overseas experience
as the dean, then hire PhDs overseas.
There are a lot of concerns of the qualities of overseas PhDs and those
concerns are legitimate. For example, I talked with an associate dean at a
top university in China and he had two concerns: will a job candidate come
and is this job candidate good? There is no way to gurantee either of the

南开新闻网讯(记者 辛文忠)日前，荷兰莱顿大学科学技术研究中心(CTWS)发布全
球500家大学的排行，南开大学位列53，居中国高校之首。
据莱顿大学网站上的消息称，此次排行，中国大学的表现明显比过去好。“像往年
一样，美国仍然是世界科研的主角，然而，中国、伊朗、巴西等新的科学中心正在兴起
。”按照各高校发表的，在同领域、同年份处于世界被引用前10%高影响力论文占其发
表论文总量的比例来看，“南开大学排在世界53位，湖南大学排在55位，两校都超过了
出排在58位莱顿大学。”换句话说，南开的论文总量虽不算多，但其中高影响力被引用
论文不少。
从莱顿大学科学技术研究中心发布的数据来看，今年进入中国共有37所高校进入全
