American Economic Association's annual meeting in San Diego last month. A
vice president of NK came to the meeting. NK interviewed some job candidates
. Job candidates were interested in the research environment at NK. When
job candidates asked about how many overseas PhD were working at NK, it was
not easy to answer this question.
It was interesting that NK did not hold a reception at a hotel of the
meeting, as many other Chinese universities did. Instead, NK sent emails to
various alumni and had a small meeting at a restaurant. |

and HK, etc.) are working in NK now, like Zhu minlai, the head of insurance
department.
Of course, the #s are much less than Beida, qinghua, shang cai...
but the new leaders of school of economics are working hard to recruit more.

official from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics claimed that
SHUFE recruited more than 100 overseas PhD in the past few years.
Tsinghua is doing great. Actually, according to a ranking by Tilburg
University, Tsinghua is the only China mainland university ranked >100th
economics in the world.
NK also came to AEA meeting last year at Chicago, asked a scholar from
Canada to interview job candidates. |

But NK needs much more leading (well-known) scholars to increase influence
on both academia and industry, attracting outstanding students and young
professors.

situation. One example is the recruit of overseas PhDs at the Annual
Meeting of the American Economic Association. There was no much improvement
in the past decade. I will go to the next meeting in Philadephia next
January. Hopefully I can see some improvement.

but i heard the new dean appointed last year is not a good leader and bring
in a lot of political issues in management...which is really a huge damange
to the college...sigh...which results in nobody wants to come for recruiting
in annual meeting this year.

School of Economics at Nankai University (Tianjin, China) invites applicants
for several permanent/full-time positions (Assistant Professor, Associate
Professor and Full Professor). Rank/fields are open. Candidates should hold
a Ph. D. in Economics or a related discipline from a leading university.
Junior candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. degree by August 2014. The
successful candidate should demonstrate interest and ability to conduct high
level research. Senior appointments are expected to assume a leadership
role. Salaries are competitive, and will be commensurate with qualification.
Nankai University was founded in 1919. It is one of the top universities in
China. The School of Economics is further developing and promoting modern
economics.
Candidates should electronically submit a letter of application, a CV, a
published article or working paper, three recommendation letters, and
