为什么?因为这些词典都是英国人编的,而我最近才发现英国英语和美国英语有多么的
不同!尤其是涉及日常生活方面的!

从11.9抗议筹办开始,就有不少“有识之士”摆着各种姿态来指点江山,顺便show
show自己的高姿态。
有的胆小怕事,生怕11.9惹怒了“主流白人”苦口婆心要华人注意别cross the line.
有的故作大度,生怕干扰了自己的政治避难签证,要大家学会宽容。
还有的姿态高高,把所有筹办和参加的同学辛勤工作的结果当“闹剧”
好吧,如果这场闹剧是在美华人历史上规模最大的一次维权行动的话,那我认为主动维
权的同学比说闹剧的同学的水平要高几个数量级去。
恰好最近周围同学写了一篇“从要求解雇Jimmy Kimmel的119游行大闹剧说起” (链接

JK亲口说的那句 shall we let Chinese to live 你咋看不到呢?
根据英文字典解释:
Chinese:a : a native or inhabitant of Chinab : a person of Chinese descent

Webster).
"经济学人" is an accurate literal translation.
Besides, please DON'T take "scientist" as "科学家".

这句话出自最新畅销书World War Z的Page 12:

这里的excuses是什么意思?
从这个单词还可以看出,Merriam-Webster的字典也并不完美,在此处就缺了一个释义。
反而是我之前推荐过的Macmillan Dictionary for Student (1984年版),却包含了这
个释义。足见本人推荐字典的水准之高。

Oxford Dictionary, 也是俩:

association, or necessary consequence rather than by direct statement。

Eureka!
I finally find out what your tree--and flowers--is.
(1) I consider many possibilities.
One was the original posting was a hoax. I live in Boston, Massachusetts. On
the assumption that late April in Boston is about late October in Sydney,
Australia, I found it hard to believe that trees are so green in Sydney, let
alone flowers in bloom. (In boston, leaves change color and started falling
in mass about mid-October.)
