置（Graphics Memory）来讲， 这两个电脑是不是差很多啊？graphics memory是用来

而Linux有纯文本的command-line mode, 这种mode是可以对于memory, or video
memory要求不很高，但是，
我记得我的desktop Ubuntu 8.10的 CD没有command-line or text mode安装选项. 不
知其他Ubuntu安装光盘有没有?
至于ubuntu对于memory（ not video memory）不高。 最低只要 ~32MB。

anyone tell me how much slower is the heap memory allocation? A numerical
analysis on a popular implementation would be terrific, e.g., linux. Another
stupid question: after memory allocation, the access to heap memory should
be as fast as to stack memory, right?

发帖数: 1174 | 4 碰到一个问题，一个C++写的server，run了一天后，用top看占了1.5G，在它想再分配
一块500M的heap时，就out of memory了。
同样的程序，在另一个server上run了一天后，却只占300M，也没有out of memory的问
题。
本人怀疑是memory fragmentation。因为如果是memory leak的话，不管在哪个server
上都会有memory leak。可能两个server的kernel不一样(虽然都是RHEL3)，导致只在一
个server有memory fragmentation？
哪位有这方面经验的能分享一下吗？ |

no any traffic, its memory usage is 1.4G. Then the system was running under
stress for 30 mins, and the memory usage reach ~10G. We stopped the stress,
however, the memory usage didn't go down too much, which was around ~9G. We
checked the system statistics, and there was no object hanging in the memory
. Then we restarted the stress, however, within 18 mins, the system was
running out of the memory.
Any idea?

一个interview问题，相当open，我猜测意思是看你对OS的了解，应该复习windows
internal的。
64bit 的机器，机器physical memory是16G，上面跑一个application是占了12G，但是
这个application有memory leak并按照 4MB/min的速度在leak，问你觉得会发生什么样
子的问题。
再问：在out of memory之前会怎么样？机器会越来越慢吗？
再问：为什么我们平常说memory leak会导致机器变慢 |

现在周边辐射已经超过切尔诺贝利当时的影响了。
切尔诺贝利当时9个月之后畸形儿曾经达到过background10倍以上。持续了差不多半年
。而且第一代的效果只有10%左右。就是说第二代expect 20%畸形。。。。
概可以写长篇论文了，咔咔。简单总结对下面两个问题的答案。

发帖数: 11850 | 20 作为塑料化工行业从业者（非PU，不过有很多东西是共通的），一开始看到此文，以为
又是随便一篇惊乍文，动手查了点文献。。看到确实有的会使用PBDE（Polybrominated
diphenyl ethers）。。即便此文内容绝非完全属实，仅PBDE一条，鉴于身为普通消费
者是没法鉴定的，以后不会再买，不过本来也不舒服，呵呵。另外PU的生产过程复杂，
有劣质厂家生产脏了吧唧的次品，普通消费者照样无法鉴别residue level。
话说回来，塑料中的FR agent本身在通常条件下没那么容易释放出来，一般是考虑
recycle和万一真着火时对环境和人的污染。凡是brominated or chlorinated FR，现
在亚洲的规定是连电器外壳中都不允许使用的。这点美国反而没那么严格。
最容易跑出来chemical的是液态的，以及固化后涂料、coating中的有机溶剂和其他小
分子，硅烷类添加剂等。总之急性中毒的可能性相对小，长期来讲还是尽量少接触。成
年人也能过敏。

我讨论床垫问题的时候，针对的是小朋友，你看我并没有说“大家都不要用memory foam”。有些成人对化学品不敏感，又喜欢memory foam的舒适，我尊重他们的选择。
但是小朋友不一样。因为他们睡眠时间长，而免疫系统又弱，身体器官还没发育好。Memory foam对小宝宝来说不够firm,透气性也并不好，小朋友出汗又多，还容易过热。
成人用白色塑料杯子喝咖啡也许没事，可是一般不会长期用这种杯子倒热水给小朋友喝吧？现在大家甚至应该都是尽量给小朋友用BPA-free的塑料杯和奶瓶了吧。
我不赞成paranoid,但是衡量一件事情要比较利弊。在小宝宝睡memory foam这个问题上，我认为risks significantly outweigh the benefits. 又不是没有别的选择，那何必take the risk?

总之， 如果你是搞医的，会觉得医学文章容易读。让你读COMPUTER文章你会觉得难，
如果二个文章文法相同。 道理在于医学术语你用CHUNKING缩的很小，可以 Free
working memory。 COMPUTER术语不能CHUNKING， 不能Free working memory, working
memory 的含量每个人都差不多，越能Free working memory就越用它来思考问题。
孩子的IQ都差不多。 学的好不在于IQ， 而在与他记了多少Hard fact， 记多的就能
Free working memory, 越能好好思考问题,养成一良性循环. 在我的贴子， 我提供大
量的图书不是乱做， 我就是让孩子通过反复，不费力记住大量Hard fact, 越多越好
，比如 electron‘s anti-matter positron. 不需要懂，我也不懂，记住就好了 这样
,我认为才是不输在起跑线上。一本很好的书讲的经验。

一个原因是Katy房子要便宜的多。Katy 的房子，在Memorial至少要2.5X,还要旧很多。
如果我钱多的数不过来，我也在Memorial买了。
另外学区还是Katy好些。
如前面所提Frostwood州排名122，而Katy大部分小学排名都在40～50左右，而且不像
Memorial的方差那么大。
Memorial的好处当然是都看得出了，离城里近多了。Katy现在的新房子都在99外面了，
真是远啊。 |

2. 77024的community includes memorial最好的小学中学和高中, 77079(South of I-

,小学有两个Wilchester和Rummel Creek都是exemplary的小学

小说有很多种分类，有武侠类，科幻类，奇幻类，历史小说，神仙传奇，浪漫小说，文
学小说，等等。分类以后，方便了读者，也方便了作者，同时书店和图书馆也可以省不
少麻烦。每种分类的作品，当然都有某种共性，久而久之，这种共性就成了传统，就成
为了格式。格式化以后，往往就成了某种八股文一样的共性，就抑制了创新，特别是武
侠，科幻，爱情小说一类的，久而久之，就背上了一个包袱，为“文学”人士所不齿，
写这类小说的作家就有了stigmata，这个在科幻和浪漫小说中尤其显著，当年科幻大师
Isaac Asimov就写过好多为科幻作品的地位的辩护文章。
直到现在，对于类型(Genre)作品的偏见还是很多，对于科幻，奇幻和神怪小说的偏见
在“文学”作品的评论家里面还是根深蒂固。这帮人看见科幻，奇幻和浪漫作品，也就
一撇嘴，一副Snob的模样。这帮人所欣赏的，所谓的“文学类型”的作品，literary
fiction，这是一个很难定义，也很难划分的类型，反正就是不是那些非常卖座的，大

昔日热爱的版块冷落下来, 也不希望星星和河马牵挂的jhq整理一直成为牵挂, 希望能
尽自己一些力为大家做些事:
一,保持本版的休闲性和娱乐性。Memory是个让大家在学习工作之余放松的场所, 不带

在Memory混过一段时间了,做为平民,一度想离开却又有牵挂.
不想星星和河马几乎同时辞去Memory版主/副职位,只有傻张同学一人独撑, 不希望看到
昔日热爱的版块冷落下来, 也不希望星星和河马牵挂的jhq整理一直成为牵挂, 希望能
尽自己一些力为大家做些事:
一,保持本版的休闲性和娱乐性。Memory是个让大家在学习工作之余放松的场所, 不带
某些目的指向性, 言论自由. 保持Memory版的原则(鼓励和保护原创; 保护MM):)
二,整理好jhq.
期间如有合适的人有申请版主意向,我当马上退出. |

我有个while loop， 大概loop 5000次。 每次while loop有个5000个row的table被
scan一次，然后有个很大的table被update一次。其实我还给这个table加了index。但
不知道为什么，大概run一段时间后整个sql server 窗口就关掉了，好像是memory
hike到一定程度了。 我在task manager里观查memory是一点一点加上去的，然后到一
定程度就cush掉，把整个sql server client给关掉了。不太懂sql server这一块是怎
么工作的，每个while loop不释放memory吗？怎么样可以让每个while loop释放memory
呢？望懂得人指点。不胜感激！ |

标 题: 问一个跟 memory (process address space) 的有关的问题

在Linux下，一个process运行的时候address space都会有stack section, data
section, test section, bss section,等等，以及由 malloc()所得到的 memory.
我的问题是，malloc()到底是从系统的什么地方得到的动态memory?是不是从所谓的
heap 得到的?
如果是这样，是不是 heap 就是整个系统共有的 memory pool,各个process可以从这里
动态的得到memory via malloc()?

User dump 就是一般应用程序AV的dump.大小跟应用程序的地址空间有
关系。一般是enable DR watson以后才有的。
可以通过start->run type "drwtsn32 -i"来enable dr watson.
位置和backspace说的一样。
memory dump 分几种，一种是minidump这种一般来说debug是看不出什么
来的。一般需要把整个memory里的东西都dump出来。
如果你的pagefile不在system drive里，那么是不能做出memory dump
的
多谢答复！找到了!在winnt下的memory.dmp。其实我也查过帮助，不过俺
用的是中文w2k,dumping momery找不到的说。 |

Two big data frame, each is approximately 1.5G.
After I merge them, this object becomes 1.7G, however memory used by R
increased 5G. I tried to release the extra memory with gc(). It does not
work. I suspect there is some cache in merge() function that holds the
memory. Is there anyway to free those memory?
I tried to quite R and save workspace, after I reopen R and load the
workspace, those memory is released. Certainly I dont want to do this from
time to time. |

code. usually R will report not enough memory error instead of quitting.
that said, only deleting an object does not release the memory.after
deleting objects try run :
gc()
this will release memory and show how much memory is in use.But it is also
well known that gc() does not solve all memory shortage problems. |

本人刚才被封,封人理由是spam.我只是在memory发了几篇水文而已,随即被他迅速删除.
又并无打广告,而且memory本身就是为网友抒发感情的地方.我前后共发不到七八篇,也
绝对算不上类似于灌水机式灌水,而chrr竟然封了我三十天!
他之所以这样封我,是因为我和他在LOVE版发生争吵,起因是因为我用了他的ID在标题
中.所以他跨版封人,在memory办了我,这实在于MIT的版主的职责不附.
所以我希望他解封并且道歉.
