《华盛顿邮报》及《ABC新闻》联合民调显示，大多数美国人希望波士顿爆炸案幸存嫌犯焦哈尔（Dzhokhar Tsarnaev）被判处死刑。
不过虽然70%的美国人支持判处其死刑，各种族在该问题上意见分裂。75%白人表示如果焦哈尔被裁定有罪则应该判处其死刑；相较而下，只有52%非裔美国人支持判处其死刑，43%则表示反对。西班牙裔美国人观点则夹在两者之中，62%支持判处其死刑，35%则表示反对。
对该问题的意见差异显示公众对死刑本身的认识差异。《华盛顿邮报》最近在马里兰州的调查显示，63%的白人支持对承认犯下杀人罪的犯人处以死刑，而仅有37%的非裔美国人支持。
