最近的UA事件,左逼说,哈,你们右逼居然支持医生,你们右逼不是一直口口声声Law
and Order吗?要知道这个医生可是破坏Law and Order的呢!想以此来打右逼的脸。
这里面,有两个问题:
1.医生不下飞机,是否违反了Law and Order?答案是没有。因为UA的条例是商业合同
,医生只是违反了合同而已。警察是无权介入商业纠纷的。特别是最近的Video显示医
生非常镇静,完全没有危害公众安全和飞航安全。在这种情况下,他完全是有正当的理
由不配合保安的非法要求。
因此右逼支持医生,完全不是双重标准。
2.更容易造成混肴的,是源于对不合理的Law的态度。左逼的想法是,Law是我定义合不
合理的。我觉得不合理的,我就不遵守,你要搞我,我就打砸抢暴力反抗。右逼的态度

关于那些 law office 的好坏,我一无所知。我只是尽
斑竹的职责,来 mark 帖子。具体情况请大家自己判断。
斑竹原则上不禁止评论 law office 的帖子,除非明显的
恶意攻击。斑竹强烈建议大家就事论事,提供信息为主,
避免使用感情色彩过于浓重的用词。诚然,斑竹理解大家
的心情,只要不是恶意攻击,斑竹将以版面劝告为主,不

看了楼上几位大人物的讨论心里算是有底了。大家说的很对,自己的case只有自己才最
了解。容易的case不具有代表性,真正的好law是有起死回生之术,能把弱case包装成
强case才行。这里刘law的严格和成功率无法置评,过了都说是好law,没过就可能被说
成坏law。我知道自己case不算弱,但是要包装好才行,版上多少血淋淋的例子,背景
比我强很多,不一样RFE和悲剧?!
elsevier, kathylee,bigbigbee以及TrueStory都属于牛人级别的,出口成章,妙语
连珠,很会挖掘闪光点,我要是有各位大侠水平的一半,绝不含糊立马DIY。

这种感觉,况且是资深刘law托儿的建议,哈哈。看来DIY才是王道啊,虽然偶笨,但怎

首先祝大家Happy New Year。小妹第一次在这个版发言,请大哥大姐们多多包涵。
我是个干了6年活的码工。第一代移民,tier 3大学BS/MS,成绩工作都还算过得去,不
是最差那种,但也不是出类拔萃,没得过成就奖之类的荣衔,也没出过paper。
现在做了6年苦工感觉仍是原地踏步,职称没有升,workload有增但responsibility似
乎没有,领导也没有培养做PM或promote上principal级的意图,自我感觉仍是个可有可
无的小工。
现在想回校深造,但不知这条路是否可行和值得,求建议。
详细说说我的实际情况。
我来自中国大陆的小地方,父母没上过大学也不懂英文,不是出身富有人家。高三那年

条很长的尾巴,而如果在 log-log scale 下画出来呢是一条直线。power law 在现
实生活中很普遍,大抵大家举得最多的例子就是一个图里面节点的度服从 power law
分布。而除了大家研究得很多的图之外呢,好几十年前 Simon 同学就说人的收入
看着似乎也服从这个分布。这样一来就有问题了。大家都说美国好啊,美国的中产阶
级占多数,有钱人和穷人相对来说没那么多。一个读了博士的 wsn,好歹也能混个中
产阶级,比上不足比下有余。要真这样的话,美国人的收入就明显不是 power law
分布了。咋回事呢?
换过来看中国。大家都说中国人的收入就一金字塔,有钱人很有钱,但不多,没钱
的人穷得揭不开锅,遍布全中国。这看着就一赤果果的 power law。难不成这样才是
正常的?

I think the two cents you shared are very helpful, at least to me.
Switching to law is a big decision, and I have been wondering for a while.
Not many EE people come to the law field, but seems the law firms are
desperately looking for EE backgrounds. That really confuses me. I'm trying
to figure out which is the chicken and which is the egg.
My answer of joining a law firm surprised all my friends around and they
kept asking me why. I think for most EE people, law is not on the list and

两年semiconductor industry工作经验,RF hardware engineer
女性
英语不错,口语交流技巧较好,喜欢与人打交道
年收入95K to 100k.
想转的原因:
1)觉得engineering boring;
2) 担心5~10年后被outsource;
3)觉得收入增长空间太小(150k/y top)。希望10年内退休,作工程师似乎很难达到这
个目标。
4)老工也在同一个行业,我希望能转行diversify.
5) 转law,以后回国还有点前途。做engineer就完全跟国内的大批engineer抢饭碗了。
打算:以后靠firm的支持,part time读law school.
请教:我这样的情况有必要转law吗,进入law firm初期,每个星期工作多少小时?

My two cents:
1) One L, a book by Scott Turow, gives you a basic idea of the life of a
first-year law student.
2) Vault 100 & AMLaw 100/200 lists, to get familiar with the names of the
law firms, if Big Law is your career goal.
3) "Getting to Maybe", or "law School Confidential", gives you some ideas of
the game played by law professors in class or in exam.
With respect to BarBri or PMBR, I don't recommend since first, you won't
understand much; second, memorization is not the key to get good gr

I assume that state school has an awesome law school? It seems almost
everyone only talks about elite law schools (top 14) on this board. I wonder
how
many of them actually attend(ed) top law schools. Or can I simply it into
these two equations:
elite law school = good job prospect
so-so law school = gray job prospect (or even no job at all?)
It may be over-simplified.

Depending on what you plan to do after law school. If you have a technical
degree and intend to do patent law, there is no way you can earn under 60K/
year.
To many people who already have a Ph.D. from a decent school and work
through part-time law school as a technical advisor or otherwise maintain an
active practice as a patent agent, the law school is meant only for a J.D.
degree and qualifications to take the state bar.

在本版“Phd去读law school”一文中,我的回答受到了同志们的谴责。我想也许的确
是牛人实际上很多,而我的认识有所不足。
我非常之好奇到底有多少从中国大陆来,通过考LSAT在这里读Ivy League的law school
的JD。倘若我一直对精英学子们有所低估,现在是改正我的错误观念的时候了。
回答者须满足如下条件:
1. 在中国国内接受的大学教育
2. 在这里在读或已完成JD,不是LLM
3. law school是Ivy League;不是Ivy League的话,排名前十五名的law school亦可
不许说“我听说...”或者“我的一个朋友...”之类的,读过law school的同志们应该
知道这样的回答不太那个。

You pay 40,000 a year, and by the 2nd or 3rd year, people stopped going to
classes. Exactly what are you paying 40K a year for? You are paying 40K a
year for an opportunity to be hired by a law firm.
To put it another way, it's almost as if the law firms and the law schools
came together and decided that top school will charge 40K a year, law firms
will only hire from those top schools, and they'll split the money. Is this
not a racket?
And why is it that law firms refuse to hire people outside

我的一个同学在国内,很有雄心壮志,非常想了解香港、新加坡、亚洲最好的 law
school。
他不是要了解美国的law school。
他的问题是:
香港最好、第二好的law school是哪两所?
新加坡最好、第二好的law school是哪两所?
亚洲最好的law school是哪所?

PS:我也只是替人问问题,他背后的动机、将来的结果我们就不讨论了。

老中一大特色是爱一哄而上,
CS, statistics, accounting, MBA, quant, nursing, 现在轮到law了
不过law跟以上的还真不太一样,进个law school还不难,毕竟law school是个赚钱的
大产业,每年好几万人都呼啦近来缴上学费再说
但是出来了能不能找到一个好工作就太难说了,全美每年绝大多数法学院毕业生也就勉
强糊口或者没饭吃,比engineer的行业薪水差老鼻子了
这个就业的高门槛将导致law不会像其他行业一样老中泛滥
当然老中基数太大,绝对数量肯定是见涨

好的法学院,哥大宾大,乔治城,等top7,甚至是stanford,harvard,yale law
school出来的第一代华人JD。难道只是mitbbs移民版多了一个孙@@,李@@移民律师么?

这个语言关,经过几年,到底是过不过得了。本人觉得自己对语言学习,单词记忆,法
律,还是很有专长和兴趣的。

还有,就是law的录取,是就看lsat么?只要是考到满分180,179,绝对可以进yale是么
?本人雄心壮志,所以现在就这样瞎问,大侠一定要来嘲笑打击。不知道law的录取还
看什么?

law的水多深?上次听说一个本科是英语的,还是graduate with high honor 的台湾学
生,在top7里面只拿B,但是抄他作业的,白人有钱人拿A。这个是法学院真的有这么不
公平?
4,
3年学费哪里来?听说可以贷款,不知道出来后年薪是多少,大概多少年可以还清楚。

本人已经是美国的工科硕士,本科是国内的,25 26 。算老么?不知道27岁入学,还争

关于Newton's Laws especially Newton's 2nd Law of Motion是否适用于nanometer
scale. Let me first quote from "The Feymman Lectures on Physics" Vol. 1, page
2-6:
"The mechanical rules of "inertia" and "forces" are wrong -- Newton's laws are
wrong -- in the world of atoms".
So this quotation sets the tone of the applicability of Newton's Laws, i.e.
Newton's Laws can't be applied in the scale of "atoms".
Next, what's the scale of atoms.? Let me quote once again from the same book
