entertaining on occasion), and they tossed out a little factoid that left me
positively gobsmacked. As a bit of background on the federal debt ceiling

I'm in the same situation. I wrote a letter to USCIS Last Monday, here's
response I got: "USCIS is aware that individuals may be impacted by the
government shutdown. If any changes in the processing of case is made, that
information will be posted to the USCIS website."
I followed up this morning and got the same response.
I assume USCIS has been aware or informed that the government shutdown won't

quarters)结束租约合理吗?
有人有经验出租房屋给军队系统的人吗?
房子在millitary base 附近， 就出租给了军队系统的人， 好像房主需同意一个叫
millitary clause 的amendament在签lease的时候。主要他们由于军队命令需离开
的时候， 房主不能hold them responsible. 最近住户提交了一份表， 表示要搬
走(刚2个月)。 但是他们只是搬到base里去，并不是被命令调走， 而且感觉是他们
自己申请的base里的房子批下来了。不是军队的命令(当然他们说是millitary order
to base)。 他们提供了AF-150 表(drayage/storage authorization-government
quarters). 不知到这种表qualify for breaking the lease 吗? 看起来好像只
是表明政府会付storage expense.

residence requirement based on: Government financing 处被签证官勾上了。豁免
会被拒吗？很担心。有人和我有同样的情况吗？
我并没有直接从Government拿钱。是我老板拿的NSF，然后雇的我。但当时不懂，也没
想到以后有一天会申请豁免，所以也就没有和签证官argue.
现在要办豁免了，是不是得需要学校ISO或老板给出个证明？也不知到人家会不会给出
，因为已经不在那个学校了。
希望大家给出个主意，看看有什么补救措施，谢谢！ |

非常普遍，这个钱是首先拨给大学或者你老板，然后你老板用这个钱资助你，
这个情况不属于Government financing。
一般签证官只是对于J1是否需要豁免做一个initial decision， 这个
结论可能是错的，真正最终的决定权在DOS， 楼主可以向 DOS
request for an advisory opinion for J1 wavier. 如果楼主
是中国人，基本就是需要来自中国大使馆的NOL。
楼主当然也可以问你学习的ISSO的工作人员，我记得我当时问过我们学校
的关于我是否被Government financing(老板funding来自DOE)，他们
明确地告诉我我不属于。

my wife was a J1 visiting student when we met, and now we are married and
she is here in US as a F1 student.
now we are thinking about getting a waiver to clear any hurdle for
future immigration. and one immigration lawyer told us that it is
possible to get a national interest waiver, but he did admit that
he never dealt with government funded students.
My question is that is it even possible to use NIW to get away from
paying back the government fund. |

我是在瑞士自费读的博士,然后１３年拿到瑞士自然科学基金委的一个fellowship来美
国博士后.现在发现当时的DS-２０１９上面的"subject to the two-year residence
requirement based on" 以及" government financing"均被签证官打钩.签证上面也写
着"bearer is subject to section 212e".
我去瑞士留学之前有申请国家公派,被选上了,但是我没有要(因为瑞士的老板后来说可
以support我了).而且我也拿过优秀自费留学生奖学金,这应该说明我和中国政府没有经
济关系了啊.是不是这里的"government financing"是指瑞士政府?
我这种情况能申请豁免吗?有没有类似情况的朋友?
马上要申请豁免了,希望大家能帮我解答一下,或者指导一下下一步怎么办? |

我今天和我们学校的international scholar officer谈的时候，她说一般J1 scholar
的ds-2019是exchange vistor skills list， 这样的话豁免都没有问题。但是如果是
government financing，就会比较麻烦。我像知道，这个government financing前面打
勾会不会影响我的waiver。 |

我的DS2019上program sponsor写的是ORAU，但是funding一栏写的是department of
agriculture，下面打钩也是government funding。
我想问一下我这样算是government funding吗？如果是，那USCIS会去问sponsor view
，那他们是去问ORAU吗？因为他们是我的sponsor
