I think a team may choose to kick a field goal anywhere if applicable.
It's not necessary in opponent's territory. But there is a statistic
probability to goal by field goal for each kicker. So they would like
to kick a field goal when the ball is close to opponent's goal line
(<40 yards).

是忽悠，也不能没有，否则SC会认为你眼界太浅，没有vision。譬如：我的研究小组致
力于解决人类未来吃饭的问题。你可以补充吃饭问题不解决，世界纷争不会停。
然后toward this big goal，未来5年,我的research goal 是研究新的方法把泥巴变成
大米饭。你可以讲讲这个topic为什么有意义，为什么你是研究这个topic的不二人选。
你可以说我有把石头变成红薯的工作经验，已经发表在CNS上。
然后才是你的research plan，千万别把plan当成goal。你的plan应该是这样的：为了
实现泥巴变米饭这个goal，我将要开展一系列projects with sub aims，including （
1）甄别不同泥巴，选出具有变米饭可能性的泥巴；（2）弄清楚泥巴变米饭的动力学原

Roughly, if you attend a 47-yd field goal and miss it, your opponent
will start their offense in their own 37 (remember the end zone is 10

如果是 career 的，那么你可以回答是喜欢（或者以后计划）在 academia，还是
industry，或是 teaching 等等。
如果问的是 research 的，那么你可以说说你目前对你以后想做的领域的看法吧。可以
根据你自己的背景和喜欢，实话实说。（我的背景是什么，我喜欢或者擅长什么，我希
望以后做什么）。
这点算是对所有学生和博后的建议：
你如果能告诉说，不管以后想做什么，你一定都会把目前要做的做好，还是很有用的。
事实也基本如此：能把目前该做的做的好的，以后做什么也不会差的。
举个例子，尽管不是直接问及 long term goal 的，但有点参考意义吧：
我以前有个美国学生，是从流行病学转过来。他说他还是喜欢 bench work，不喜欢弄
那些数据。结果来了以后，做的真很不错。一毕业就找到了一个教学为主的州立大学的
AP 职位。在那里也做的不错。 |

和别人合作没有问题，但要先包装自己，再谈和别人合作。
你要先强调一个你自己核心的goal和你自己的核心技术优势。这是你未来能拿到lead-
PI grant的基础。否则SC会觉得你只会跟着别人的vision找应用，你未来的grants都是
co-PI。
你要先强调你的理论工作的首要目的是推进你本领域理论知识的进步，得到这个领域同
行的认可，然后才是拓展别的领域的应用。
假如你的本领域是finite element analysis (FEA), 如果你面试的时候只强调未来用
FEA去和别人合作设计新的汽车，飞机，机器人，那么SC的人会困惑未来到底哪个领域
的人能做你的tenure evaluation，汽车，飞机，。。。。？
所以你的核心goal应该是创造新的FEA方法，这些新的FEA方法将会非常牛逼，因为他们
将包含新的big data, 云计算，基因算法等概念。他们将打败所有FEA领域的传统方法
。未来你写nsf proposal，这就是你的intellectual merits。

好一点的也就发成"够欧",类似的以l结尾的单词，老中的问题很多。
比如girl, chemical, bell, sell等等，l结尾的发音，中文没有，国内垃圾老师
不会发，教的都是错的。 |

为了便于就业，我决定申请好一点学校CS的PhD。
Computer Architecture and VLSI;（本科学校的专业）
Embedded System;（本科的课）
Networking;（一直感兴趣）
都是我喜欢而且感觉很好的方向，毕竟任何一个都比我目前的坑好百倍，所以只要有这
些领域的研究者想收我，我都可能非常高兴的。（真的一点都不挑）
虽然原来的EE方向发了一堆一作二作的Paper，但是方向不match真是挺要命的。
对于我的goal, objective, motivation 真的不知道该怎么写。。。
目前我的大概写法是,
objective and goal: PhD in CS/ECE......My research interests focus on
Computer Architecture and VLSI...other areas that interest me are Embedded

子，主要是说，这个目标，必须是要能评估，量化的东西。比如说，AP accountant今
年要熟悉系统的某个模块。Sr accountant每个月末关帐都meet deadline等等。我们的
手册是针对审计的，所以可能和会计不太一样。这几个例子也是我随便举的，所以只是
给您参考参考。哦，对了，我们还有personal development goal。比如说CPA考了几门
啊？参加了什么培训啊，学习了什么心技能什么的。
performance review的正常流程是，年初的时候manager和下属坐下来讨论今年的目标
是什么，制定目标和计划。年中的时候见个面，讨论一下目标的进度。年底的时候，根
据目标的完成情况，评估当年的表现。
你现在要做performance review了，才去写目标，是不是时间上有点晚啊？ |

是什么，怎么实现。我感觉很多老板都是通过写这个东西判断和检验你。
一看你是不是没有什么大目标，这种的很有可能混日子。所以管他什么，最好都写要当
faculty。
二来看你对人生有没有一个详细的设计。一般有目标有计划的人对自己的人生设计也是
明确的。所以不论是什么目标，一定要每一步要做什么，怎么实现，怎么提高自己，都
需要写明。
至于跟他们课题结合多紧密，我觉得不是关键。 |
