1. 他目前学生物，应该对口吧。
2. 他听说Loma Linda University不错，怎么转过来？
3. 将来就业怎么样？挣钱多少似乎不重要，就是爱好。想让人家瞧得起，又不用做手
术。
我说他这个孩子就是想不开，外科手术最挣钱应该没错吧。他爸妈再有钱也有不够花的
一天，何况美国这个画画世界。
大家尽量帮忙，孩子学习很努力认真，就是太天真些。好朋友的孩子有很多机会，感觉
这个genetics没啥前途。 |

PS: 美国的genetic counselor只要过一个Master of Science Degree in genetic
counseling，然后再认证一下，专业素质比OB差太多了，考察的重点是重大遗传疾病（
脑部缺陷很可能不是遗传性的），工作方法以counseling为主，即建议和安慰，工作责
任也比OB小很多很多。

以一定要 in vivo knock-in animal model 来 support，否则 simple

从ABMG的website上的介绍来看，似乎觉得有一线希望，但是由于研究背景与遗传学疾

很笨的brute force genetic screen 结果是很不确定的，是发散的。你不知道会得到
什么基因。这就是genetic screen 的魅力。你得到了基因，才是开始。
而我说的试错法，是一个一个试你“认为”的可能性，在思维上是收敛的。很可能你认
为的可能性根本就不包括真正的机制。所以随着时间，你会不断补充新的可能性。
我再次说一下，没有绝对的不试错。我也试错。但一个明白人，不会去试所有的可能，
而是会prioritize。
会不会prioritize，会不会分辨，决定你是不是试错法。 |

数时候就读读abstract而已。PI到她那份上，更多的是networking 了。
我的例子里，她已经让那个听话的薄厚废掉了。8年只发一篇文章，还是二流的，就因
为她瞎指挥。试了一个又一个没有经过仔细推敲的想法。有的时候连hypothesis 都算
不上，因为没有足够的证据或逻辑来支持。举个例子，但我不能说的太具体，因为人文
章还没发呢。该薄厚的项目曾经有一个technician 帮忙，找到Gene A 一个genetic
modifier，mapped 到一个locus，有几个基因，恰好有一个gene B 跟oxidative
stress和DNA repair有关。该薄厚又发现在culture neuron里，该蛋白B有一小部分在
线粒体上。然后我前老板就非常兴奋，立刻认定是线粒体功能受影响。就订了一台测老
鼠呼吸的仪器，做了一番发现呼吸耗氧量没变化。然后就认为可能只局限于神经系统，
于是订了很多抗体，kit，都是关于线粒体的。结果什么变化都没有。我没时间讲太多

本人生物博士第5年，一直以来，对research的感觉不冷不热。既不是非常passionate
，倒也不觉得厌恶，就这样一直混到第五年。近半年以来，因为毕业，实验，发文章的
事情，和老板闹得不是很愉快。具体的事情就不赘述了。现在的情况就是文章写好了，
老板不改不看不发，拖着不让毕业。但同时又拒绝继续支付我的学费和生活费，让我自
己找funding解决。经过这一系列的事情以后，感觉现在对做生物最后的一点兴趣都被
磨灭了。不管怎么样，还是打算在今年之内毕业走人。
现在在为毕业以后的出路考虑，我是肯定不会做faculty的。大概倾向于两种选择，想
听听版上达人们的建议。
一个比较保守点的就是毕业以后，做一轮2－3年的博后，然后找业界的工作。
另一个比较risky一点的就是毕业以后，重新申请一个实用性的master，读出来以后找
工作。现在在关注genetic counseling这个方向，但是实在不认识有过相关经历的人，
所以上来请教大家。我是F1签证。并且只能靠F1身份读书，毕业，找工作，再转成H1B
