(CNN) -- Jon Meis' reported habit of carrying pepper spray may have saved
students' lives after a man opened fire at a Seattle college.
The shooter had just wounded three people Thursday, one of whom died. He was
reloading his shotgun when Meis, a volunteer security guard, saw an opening.
He doused the gunman with the spray and tackled him to the ground.

artistic image最大可能地，无误地，convey给读者。
德语原文是Der Nebel steigt，意思是雾升起，英文翻译者并没有按照字面译成clouds
rise，而是译成clouds gather，我觉得他/她译的非常好，真正明白了原作者要描绘
的情境-- 是要渲染出一种很灰心丧气的气氛。 用gather，表面上“不准确”，其实比
rise更“准确”，因为gather比rise更准确地传达给读者一种压抑的气氛。
我把Der Nebel setight译成薄雾弥漫，我也是尽力在渲染一种灰色调，我觉得应该会
有更好的译法，但至少我的主要的tone是对的。（我自己觉得“薄雾弥漫”，clouds
gather相对于原文的Der Nebel setight都是用不同的笔法来刻画同一个画面。）
小波引用的那个德文译文，之所以失败，不是说字面上差很远，它的不准确是说整个情
境描绘出了问题，第一句尽管很美，可是和原文需要铺成的压抑气氛完全相反。（详细

The FBI says it is investigating the deadly mass shooting in California as
