自认能力一般, 以后也没有想在research上做牛人的想法, 于是彻底打消utd的选择了.
我在UTD读PHD 我说几句吧。。。
虽然说UTD的publication好，地理位置好，但是LZ知道FINANCE PHD在UTD的境遇是怎么
样的吗？最近一届qualify
exam第一轮全挂，补考后1个人过。在上一届，qualify exam全挂，补考全挂，该回国
的回国，该转MS转MS。finance
PHD一直是我们重点同情对象。publication再好，地理再好，只要qualify exam这样的
话，浪费2年时间是什么感觉。LZ
觉得自己能力足以应对这样变态的qualify吗？如果能安心读书，qualify过得轻松点，
我会投UA，至少UA的时间序列这块
不错~~~
不仅是finance，SOM的其他PHD也这样，今年OM只有1个人上了job market。UTD的SOM就

我的背景：我是美国一个排名不错（十来名吧）的学校的商学院phd，是本科毕业
直接过来的，没有工作经验。现在发现自己将来不想教书。。。觉得去政策性机构或者
private
sector都挺好的，但是对这些不太了解。
有几个问题想问问这里的师兄师姐们~
1. 政策性机构，像world bank, Asian development bank这种地方，他们招fresh
phd应该就是那种young professional那种项目吧？这种项目一般每年是多少人抢多少
位置啊？这些机构会招中国人么？自己要有多么competitive才能进这种机构呢？申请
的时候是dissertation重要还是推荐信重要呢？transcript会看么？
2. private sector，看前面帖子说可以分为咨询和金融。
（1）咨询：中国人在这里做咨询的前途大概怎么样呢？可能我了解太少的缘故，咨
询大概就是类似case study吧，那phd有什么优势呢？

因为在funding上, 目前的项目有一些问题, 然后还有我对自己的电子工程的软件方向
失去兴趣了... 之前毕业的师兄就业前景也不好..., 博士毕业去做与专业无关的代码
民工, 在New York 附近也才8万年薪...
经过朋友介绍, 有机会去申请Finance PhD, 但是这个项目找人很少, 而且即使申请到
学校排名会比较靠后 (七八十名? )
不过听朋友介绍, 即使排名比较靠后的Finance PhD, 虽然不容易找教职, 但是就业也
不错, 起薪也有10+万吧...
做电子工程写代码的是混青春饭的, 升职希望小, 不升职的话, 四五十岁肯定就干不动
了. 做Finance 专业是不是会有更加好的职业前途?

the competition in Finance is fierce, I guess I can only focus on small and
not-so-famous finance programs in ordinary public schools.
Is it worth the extra time if I can only wish to get the PhD. Finance offer
in a tier-3 (rank 50 ~ 100) university?
Or is it better to stick to the program despite the difficulties and gloom
future and to get the EE PhD as soon as possible?

不过感觉corporate finance topic很多, empirical的和theory都比较好做.
好像往往empirical research leads theory in most fields of corporate finance
如果喜欢micro和game的话, 应该选corporate finance呀. |

same. An exception I know of is when the Economics and Finance are in the
same department. In that case, even though Finance pays more, the
difference is not that significant.

top 20 programs. Of course, finance phds make much more and the market for
finance phds is also less competitive. But it is more difficult to get in
top finance departments than top econ departments. |

(1) Good reference book to cover all the economics areas (micro, macro, and
modern, etc.). Probably, it needs the other book to cover modern finance
theory, right?

今年在job mkt上，我是读finance的，学校是一般的公立大学。
10月份fma面试，大概又10来所中国学校来，大部分都是南方的，因为我想回国，我都
投了。
除了一两所，大部分都给面试了。
跟大家随便说说感觉吧。
其实写这个还是挺多concern的，有些信息不知道该不该写，怕写出来不合适。如果版
主觉得有不合适的，告诉我我修改下。本来我写想写的挺多的，后来自己删了一部分。

- what kind of jobs should she look for? and which large companies offer

UIUC, 今年刚开的项目，第一届，听同学说uiuc finance 就业还好,好像中西部有个
uof chiago,不知道uiuc在中西部好不好找工作
u of waterloo, Canada, 这个项目不错，竞争也很激烈，听在哪里上学的同学说，这
个项目都找到intern乐，去年经济不好的时候，也都找到了。 可是在加拿大，要是毕
业后想回美国，难不难？
都比较鸡肋，请大家给点意见。

我们学校的faculty主要做corporate finance。
Black－Scholes大家都有接触过，是finance theory课程的内容 by Huang and
Litzenberger。好像大部分也是关于定价的理论。

finance知识对我来说问题不是很大。再请教一下数学和编程方便的。那些stochastic

论统计statistics, applied mathematics转行的有优势，论编程那些CS,EE的别的专业
没法比。但是这些人在本专业都很难拿到faculty，Finance PhD听说难度相对小多了。
相反生物物理专业转行搞金融的很多，人家那是没办法。感觉你是有选择的人，如果硬
把自己放到和他们一起竞争岂不亏了
还有如果你找PhD level的工作，为什么担心编程？C++耍的好是有难度，不过那只是锦
上添花，真要开发产品，有一堆Master做coder；那些统计软件本就是设计得牺牲效率
换取傻瓜操作的，本科生就能掌握得很好，不用担心，那些根本不算难度。
愉快。我想进军业界。我是学corporate finance。统计啊计量是学了，数学也喜欢。
但是不知道得加强到什么程度才行。我用的是SAS软件分析数据。我知道还有什么R,
MATLAB啊什么的，但是基本上SAS都能handle我想要的procedure，所以也没接触别的软
件。当然要学的话，我也没问题。
是他也不用C++)。
针对我们这种情况应该加强哪些方面的知识和技能呢 |

不好发表。如果不做research那又太乏味。我个人且以为industry的position对我心理
的摧残要小一点。当然有些人非常喜欢做professor，有人愿意去industry。Finance
major应该有大量PHD去industry了我也不觉得奇怪。

For tech industry like EECS, usually not that hard. They like to hire
foreign people and start GC application very quickly. But not true for
finance industry. Quants are OK, at least they like to hire foreign ppl.
Pure finance, I guess there are a lots of Americans out there, chances are

-25%，因为不善于面试，所以错过了一些在本领域相对好的机会。
本领域工作机会少，所以，面试过的公司基本上如果在1年内再有机会，再申请成功的
希望不大。所以，想看看Finance领域的一些工作机会，因为Finance领域的工作总体工
资较高，暂时不求做得比一般人好，只求利用这个行业工资高，工作机会多（尽管求职
者也多）的特点，先做个一般的或者一般以下的工作，希望在2-5年内表现能达到一般
，而工资能涨到行业同资质的平均水平，如果这样，几年后，或许会比继续呆在当前的
医药生物类行业工资高。
问题是，跨领域要想得到机会，需要利用现有的优势，我的优势是懂生物医药类，也懂
统计（经常利用常见统计软件做数据分析，虽然不会编程，但遇到的问题能解决）。
请问这个情况下，有没有一些Finance和医药相结合的一些Modeling或者数据分析的工
作适合我？如果没有，那些工作是最接近的？如果有，会把我目前的背景当作我做这类
工作的优势吗？

所以BMW financial service 24 个月的 finance都不能做。。。。。
