i am a native american and have not been paid by the chinese government for
the following comments:
the dalai lama may not have owned slaves but he was the head of a theocratic
repressive feudal politcal formation that 'owned' serfs.
these serfs were forced to work the land of the church in order to feed the
religious and political administration of tibet, much like serfs in the
european middle-ages who had to serve their masters. they were not given a

0.文章开头有一段无关的，英国贵族如何在生育上超过贫民的讨论，算是引子。
1.中国的考试文化，由于基数过大，尚不足以造成生物学意义上的进化选择压力。(我
觉得其实是有的，这里作者没有定量讨论，只是hand wave了一下，而且在文化上，考
试属于全民性的活动，文章里也有能考试对于讨老婆的优势的论述)。
2.中国的“分家”传统在农村造成地主/富农后代经济地位的快速下降，从而中国传统
农村的繁衍竞争压力大大超过其他文化，所谓能剩下来的都是人精。作者虽然没有明说
，但这个因素造成的优胜劣汰的压力是很明显的。
3.中国长期稳定的王朝和平时期，人口接近饱和，农村的生存压力主要来于对食物生产

凡上过学的中国人都知道，历史上曾有个“封建社会”。按照郭沫若的说法，这个时代
始于春秋末
期的公元前475年。
这样的封建社会概念有没有可靠的理论和历史依据？不去管它。但起码，郭沫若用的汉
字“封
建”，含义却与这个词的汉字意思完全相反。被郭沫若视为封建时代开端的 “初税亩
”，在古人眼
里恰是封建制崩溃的开始。郭沫若把秦作为第一个封建王朝，古人却一致认为，秦建立
郡县制恰恰
意味着封建的终结。
郭沫若的用法也与西人封建概念完全相反。中国古人所说的封建，与西方历史上的封建
十分接近。
因此，严复先生看到西方feudalism 一词，经过斟酌，就将其对译为古人所说的“封建

We used to have this system, it was called Feudalism, we had to run through
several uprisings, revolutions etc and England and later France had to chop
a king's head off.
