triplet” of three focusing magnets, failed a high-pressure test at Point 5
in the tunnel of the LHC accelerator at CERN. Since Tuesday, teams at CERN
and Fermilab have worked closely together to address the problem and have
identified the cause of the failure. Now they are at work on a solution.

CERN of a Fermilab-built “inner-triplet” series of three quadrupole
magnets in the tunnel of the Large Hadron Collider. The magnets focus the

it was about our zju alumni, t.d. lee
he was giving a talk at fermilab in 87 on some of his work around that time
and there was a postdoc from fermilab was working on the same project
but with a different approach
and they sort of got into a quarrel during t.d's talk.

faculty来说可以算是很牛B了，但是对于老方这种senior的已经搞了一辈子的人来说，
就只能算so so。不要说是院士，离aps fellow的级别也还差了不少。引用率最高的一
篇文章还是95年到了arizona之后跟老外合作的，被引118次，这也是方唯一一篇被引用
上百次的文章。可见方励之89之前确实没有做出过什么重要的工作，他的名声和地位绝
对是靠政治得来的，当然其中部分的也是80年在中国搞科普所得，必须承认科普工作也是
有重要的社会意义的。
(BTW，有人说你这个搜索未必完整。不错，确实不能保证100％毫无遗漏。但是我

Experimentally "excluded the particular value 170Gev", NOT " excluded the
values >= 170Gev".
Some physicists claimed http://arxiv.org/abs/hep-th/0610241 in their THEORY that the Higgs was around 170Gev. Now it's EXPERIMENTALLY excluded by Fermilab. That's it.

killed in an automobile accident near Kewanee, Illinois, on June 16, 1977.

更不要说死人了，U-235也是alpha source, 能量4.8MeV,U-238也是alpha source, 能
量4.2MeV，顺便说下U-238在无数医院，工厂做shielding，也没见死几个人。
对了，FermiLab的detector也是U-238做的，上百吨，死人了没有？核武器材料里放射
性污染最可怕的是氘，具体我就不说了。

国目前建设大型粒子对撞机项目，其中的几条反对意见，看到后不敢苟同。本人国内工
科博士毕业，后前往国外加速器实验室工作数年，于两年前回国。从研究生时期起参加
北京正负电子对撞机二期 （BEPCII）工程项目建设，在国外工作期间参加欧洲核子研
究中心 （CERN）大型强子对撞机高亮度升级项目 （HL-HLC）超导磁体技术预研，对应
用超导技术领域及粒子加速器领域颇为熟悉，斗胆班门弄斧，与杨先生及有关专家就杨

现在来说说你们家从事的高能物理这个专业，出国多的基本都是中科院的那个高能所，
我还可以告诉你，我不仅认识那的人，还认识中科院数学所，应用数学所，南开陈省身
研究生，还有中科院自动化所的人。
再来说说美国的高能物理的分布状况，由于美国的新英格兰十三个州发达的比较早期，
导致了美国核物理的研究机构大部分设立在渺无人烟的西部，因为做实验和化学成分对
人类的伤害降低到最小，不能选在人口密度大的城市区域，所以美国的核武和加速器这
种national labs在西部有多所，遗憾的是，你并不定居在西部，那么可选的美国其他
地区的有高能研究机构的地区，一只手数得出来。至于你娃读了私立，说明那个地区的
