What is the difference between a Post-doctoral Fellow and a Visiting Scholar?
My boss only wants to give me the title "Visiting Scholar".
As I understand, Visiting Scholar is often not salaried and typically for
one year. She may fire me or reduce my salary at any time because there is
no contract between us. It is danger for me to work as a visiting scholar.

LZ的情况是，5年PHD毕业，在postdoc期间打算用opt.老板比较好说话，可以商量。学
校的政策是前者给的钱算salary,后者算stipend。
这种情况下哪一个比较好？
opt的身份下，是否前者需要要交FICA taxes, i.e. social security and
Medicare,而后者不用？还是两个都不用？ |

非W2表格），假如你认为你还是中国居民（实际上IRS的意见有可能认为不是了），那
么按照中美treaty，不但FICA，而且联邦税都不用缴。可是这个工资是奖学金还是wage
和工作名头并不相关，叫做fellow不见得拿的钱就是fellowship。你需要去确认这个是
不是stipend。
我觉得你的情况还是有可能适用于treaty第20条的。不能用第19条。 |

始），发钱的时候都已经是被预扣了税的，请问我去年后四个月的税钱能要回来么？而
且我的W-2表上除了前5k，其余所有收入都算在wage里了，我之前也没有填过W-8BEN。
而且关于这个问题，上周去Payroll，他们查了下说我去年一直就是RA，系统里找不到
这个fellowship code。然后我又到系里管钱的小秘那，她说我这就是fellowship，系
里有记录的，然后说让我等payroll的回复。都等了几天了，今天系里还是说ayroll没
有答复，还让等。
请问这种情况我应该怎么保税呢，还是直接在Line30处减掉fellow的钱么

如果是government funding，ORISE会给sponsor view不反对J1 waiver的答复吗？
最近在谈一个国家实验室的博后位置，基本没有问题，就是他们只给J1 visa，不知道
放不方便waive两年的回国要求
