对大部分在美老中而言，能力还起多大作用？最近找工作找的很累，感慨良多，虽然拿
到还不错的offer，又要第N次relocate, 未来充满忐忑和不确定性。在东西海岸都呆过
，对西海岸感触尤其深。找工作过程中看看好多西部tech公司烙印的linkedin, 本科毕
业直接空降到icc, 干几年就到lead, manager职位转成正式的虐来面试的美国名校的
phd们。工作几年只用sql用的得心应手面来应聘data scientist职位的一些冷僻sl命令
，不服不行。
遇到国人面试官杀手和放水全屏运气，还没有遇到老美通过率高。

。每个人环境不同资源不同人际关系也不同，所以我的经历估计没啥代表性，但我们思
考的方向是一致的，就是找到有分量的人写favorable reference, 一点个人的分享，
看能否对你有帮助。
我今年一共申请了三所学校，三个推荐信都是找固定的三个人写的，也就是每个人写了
三封，内容几乎一样的推荐信。我当时的想法就是，我选择的人一定要我自己有把握对
方有写favorable reference意愿的人，否则绝对不予考虑。
第一份推荐信我硬着头皮找的manager, 退役军人，管理硕士，很讲义气。刚上任不久
但似乎还很受欢迎。由于各个学校的reference一般要求其中一份必须是来自于 direct
supervisor, 我的选择不多，但找他之前先探了探同事的口风，听说他在这方面一般
都很慷慨。我打电话给他，他也很讲义气的让我带上推荐信表格去他的办公室。我去了
之后他开门见山的说他会给我写得非常好，但这只是为了增加我获得面试的几率，并不

更大啊
那如果某种条件下favor A的变成了5％，应该是用更多的sample才能准确预测到啊，怎
么我用上面那个公式，p（1-p）反而小了呢
也就是说，如果是一半一半，p=0.5,应该是最容易取样的时候，为什么n反而有最大值？
