What do you really want? An booster location where you can inject mass or a
regular pump. IN epanet, click the junction assumed to be booster location,
then change the source quality property. Normally, take source tpye as mass
booster. If you just want to add a pump, it's easy.

I don't know any good free ones around for ArcGIS.
This is one for ArcView 3.x
http://dcwaterdesign.sourceforge.net/
You can check MWH, DHI, BOSS for commercial EPANET modeling software.

or WaterCAD?
I need to model a booster pump to increase the flow through the pump to
400gpm.
How should I set up the model to do that?
Thank you very much!

In waterCAD, add a flow control valve with 400gpm setting.

Do you mean model the booster pump as a reservoir + FCP?
Thanks.

Thanks.
All I want is to achieve a flow of 400gpm after the pump. From a book I
learned that setting a pump usually starts by modeling the pump as a
reservoir in a steady state simulation to figure out the pressure needed.
Then find a pump that meets that pressure and flow in more detailed design
and modeling.

booster pumps are used for increase/keep the pressure

Mel, I'm not quite sure I fully understand your question. If what you want
is just to increase the flow through the pump, then assign a downstream
demand node of 400 gpm and you will see a 400 gpm increase at the pump
assuming you are pumping to a closed system with no tanks or other supply.
It might help if you can elaborate on what you are trying to get out
of this modeling exercise. System head curve? Pump selection?

But if you are interested in modeling jobs such as water distribution
network and collection systems(storm or sanitary sewer) you should get
familiar with EPANET and SWMM. And for river systems, HECRAS.
Modeling software were build so that you don't need to worry about the
calculations, so don't get caught by the theories. Focus more on how the
software model the actual world. For example, in SWMM the surface runoff is
modeled as sheet flow on a sloped rectangle.
