an do auto test.
I do not know the server CPU price is so high.Good to know.

会被dual 5690秒。同是12核,3.46ghz的cpu。去年800元可以买到。现在涨价了。
硬件小白的话,先说说自己主要干啥用。做服务器,并行计算,视频编辑,3d渲染,堆
核,越多越好。否则,也要兼顾频率。如果你有3000的预算,推荐E5-2667 V2,dual。
3.3Ghz的主频,8X2=16核。
再下来,慢20-25%,E5-2680 v1,dual,16核,2.8ghz,1200刀的样子,以后能升级到
2667 V2。这俩方案都是兼顾核心数量和主频的。双路的话,现在好像可以36个核。也
可以配4路,thinkmate.com上有。
板上找人配的话,Thomasz(置顶的帖子)可以干。过一个月,我也可以干。 |

I rarely had any issue even with my old x200. of course it depends on what
you plan to do with it. for regular stuff, these CPUs are more than
sufficient.

modern CPUs, even at the lower spectrum like i5 or i3 can handle lightweight
matlab calculations pretty well.
however, if you know your program can take a lot of memory or disk, you need
to make sure your motherboard has enough slots to accommodate.
if the computing task is moderate and can be accelerated with more threads,
a low power i7 would work better because it can do hyperthreading (thus,
twice more threads). |

really depends on your budget, and needs for CPUs and GPUs.
google "supermicro motherboard" if you want something to have 8 PCI-E slots
to host GPUs or Xeon phi for some high throughput tasks (of course, you need
to have the software/algorithm to use them). but be prepared, those
workstations can be noisy. |

Intel fans feel better if the Broadwell-E CPUs had been configured to

in many cases, you can't upgrade memory, but you can upgrade ssd.
I was able to upgrade the stock ssd (M.2) in my X1 yoga with an EVO 960, it
was noticeably faster.
make sure you have at least 8-16G memory. browsers are memory hogs. I am not
picky at screens, was very happy for both X1 carbon and yoga.
low-end CPUs today are faster than super computers a decade ago.so, yes, of
course. |

Intel's is probably 20 core on a monolithic die but they anticipates low
yield so no 20 core will be selling initially. Threadripper is using the
lego approach to put 2 ryzens on a interposer.
Performance = freq x IPC x number of cores x scaling coefficent
Looks like intel will lower the base clock speed of high core CPUs. AMD will
do the same but probably to a less degree. We will need to wait until they
come out to know the performance.

on the other hand, try to install a Linux (xubuntu for example) or windows
xp on the old laptops, you will be amazed how fast those old CPUs can be.
my old x61 runs happily with a xubuntu and an SSD upgrade. |

Unless you run a large-scale application in a mainframe with 5000 CPUs, I dont
see any reason to spawn 5000 threads. The overhead of thread context switching
alone will make your design look silly. If you deal with I/O related problems,
I suggest you take a look at NIO introduced in JDK1.4. Specifically using
selector is far better a choice to deal with I/O multiplexing than forking
thread. Check out the following article:

码里面,尤其适合并行计算)似乎不支持sandybridge/ivybridge/haswell几种处理器,
是不是意味着基于PAPI的TAU,PerfSuite,HPCToolkit也没法做这种测试?
(2)用perf进行了测试,结果如下
