The government also hires consultants to review rate filings of the insurers. Not sure how extensively they do it, but it does happen (anthem blue cross).

-40%
consulting这个工作本身我觉得挺好玩的，但是工作强度太大，不是一辈子的活儿
大多数人都是作几年就跳到client那里做个小经理啥的，也有个100k+的收入，但是就
做纯business，估计跟R&D扯不上关系了。。。
我自己本来也是consulting感兴趣的，但是想想几个可能的出路都不是我想要的。。。
总之，consulting可以理解成一个奖学金很高的grad school，进去之前最好先想好出
路，当然，如果想一辈子做工资很高的千老，也行。。。 |

其实被consult的友科同在一个医院，也明白不会是我们自己请的consult，所以我一般
不到万不得已都不说是因为attending叫的，措辞多用We，显出是team decision嘛。

consultant太坑爹了。
其实我想的东西更多是以后的学术道路。我在生物版发过我的排序，不过被人批了，还
很有道理。我的排序是
1. 好的postdoc导师和好的方向
2. postdoc funding, F32, K99
3. 文章，以及文章反应出来的科研能力/合作能力/潜在应用
4. 博士导师的推荐
我的想法是，
item1，如果留在博士实验室会耽误item1（因为博士导师不让其他应用，不让带走东西
，不支持找好的薄厚）；
item2，如果留在博士实验室也会耽误item2（因为好多fellowship都需要在博士毕业后
1-2年内申请，还需要我现在先准备绿卡）。
至于item3，会不会找到下家之后再跟博士老板一起发以前的文章也一样？
item4，可能我是指望不上了，连给自己学生consultant这种事都能做出来。
然后有版上好心人提醒我文章还是最重要的，才最脚踏实地。没有文章其他都是虚幻。
这个也对。然后我就有点晕了，难道真的为了文章还要忍气吞声，冒着做consultant没

consultant都没问题。
2， 最好是说一下，但是consultant不用老板同意的。
3. 应该是paid的。NSF没有统一规定。可以按天算钱，不要太离谱就行（按你的状态，
一天500以下都是reasonable的），还可以包括旅行费用。 |

co-I， 但因为budget比较小， 在考虑做consultant，可以多拿点salary. 我自己
summer已经cover了。 学校政策好象是consultancy fee is beyond salary.
做consultant是不是唯一的从funding中拿超过12个月工资的方法？
当然如果budget大，做co-I比较好，可以拿sub-award, 对tenure也更好。

且绝大部分情况是干不满20% effort 的。公司也不是傻子，如果按照$500的hourly
consulting rate 需要的工作内容超过4个小时了，他们直接就offer daily rate，不
会一小时一小时这么算的了。 |

interview 加 behavior question (chatting).
待遇是 73K base salary+ 5k sign-on bonus
我今年27，背景是 Chemical engineering PhD student in top 20 school no work
experience.
这个工作是在学校job fair找的，和我一同面试的几乎全都是本科生，我是唯一的
foreign student. 我比较喜欢consulting的工作性质，因此投了简历。我不太想一辈
子做engineer 或者scientist,天天在实验室里工作。但是，也并不太清楚business
analyst具体工作的内容，不知道自己能否胜任这个工作。请求大家的建议，不知道是
否应该take, 而且不知道是否还能要求提高待遇。
