important
to buy:
- gloves, must be insulating and waterproof, not those kind of $10 cheap
gloves, or your hands are going to freeze
- strongly suggest wool socks not cotton. cotton will not keep you warm if
it gets wet, but wool will.
- hat that blocks wind, covers your ears, best are those baklava that
covers your nose
can get everything you need at EMS or REI stores.
most ski places can rent goggles if you don't have those. |

the average precipitation in winter, Chicago is much less than Boston.
Boston, on average, has more snow than Chicago, there is no doubt about it. |

need air conditioning, you were not in Chicago summer.
Chicago's winter is much warmer than Minneapolis, less snow than Michigan,
Ohio, New York. In fact, Chicago is not any colder than a normal Northern
China city, not to mention the entire Canada.
To summarize, you have a lot to whine about any other cities, too. |

The wine country north of SF Gate needs the naturally cool air mass from the

There are a few Chinese/Korean supermarkets, shopping malls, movie theaters
, bowling lanes around. The Korean food over there is pretty good. There is
at least one Chinese restaurant serves dim sum if you are a fan of it. If
you like fishing, there are number of places for that too. By the way, the
weather is very cold over there, much colder than NYC. This is how I felt
about it after living closed to there for 4 year |

You do not really spend a lot time outdoor during winter times. And actually

The important thing is that it is much cleaner and more fresh. I do not know
about cleveland, but cincinnati is way much more dirty than twin cities

arrange some lunch get-together before that. First-timers could probably
just learn from the regulars, but you will still largely on your own. Have

- No cotton!!! Cotton is completely useless when wet. You will actually get
colder if you sweat, or if your outlayer get wet from the snow.
- Heavy weight very long synthetic socks.
- Bottom: Long base layer (or fleece pants) plus ski pants (with liner or
even fleece/synthetic insulation). Ski pants does not need to be Gore Tex or
something, but it need to be of waterproof material.

is more liberal and hi-tech like Boston because there are great schools.
How does Pittsburgh compare to Boston?
Atlanta is perhaps more business and service oriented, but great place to
