academic不一定做serious research. 就算做research大多数人也出不了名. 看人片子
是工作,看老鼠就是research了, clinical research 门槛很低.好多在academic 的人
不愿承认, 其实好混. 在academic也能100%service, be a clinician-educator.
现在钱途好的derm, GI. Heme要看你本事,有好有差.如果就想挣钱,又不愿动脑子,又要
顾家, 做derm or GI, heme 也行, 进公司.
据说cornell不低, memorial 也不错.
从NYC penn station 开始, 往外开, 每隔50公里加5万, 200公里打住,估计工资已翻番.
academic 做过不一定有优势. 首先起薪差别不大,举例:academic, 1st yr $140k, 2nd
yr $145K,..5th yr 160K.

以后又有小插曲,约的9点半,小秘又临时告诉我,chair又回不来了,临时改到10点了。

倒是不觉得太累,就是郁闷得不行。我考试发挥基本正常,按版上前人的经验,认真复习6个月能上
230,但是从230上升到240甚至250就很难了。我因为是太着急,没有复习全面,想赶在今年考完第
一步,结果估计是悲剧了。
1. 题目难度和UW差不多。我每个BLOCK MARK了10题左右,都是不确定答案是否正确的。至于确定
会做的,和肯定做不出的,都没有MARK,反正MARK也没用。 考完每个BLOCK只剩5分钟,检查了一
下也基本没敢改,怕把对的改错了。结果考完一翻书,考场上MARK了的题目,记得起的至少错了25
道!!!我哭。。。
2. 我每两个BLOCK休息15分钟。时间正好。考前一定要把USMLE CD做一遍,一是熟悉题型,第二
是考试的时候能节约15分钟的考场指南。碰到两道一模一样的题目。也算是做CD的奖励吧。

CRC clinical research coordinator
根据dongyang 介绍这个职位入门门槛不高,大多是涉及实验工作、数据整理总结,需
要比较细心的工作态度。一般两年左右,不需要申请funding,好处是可以和
clinicians打交道,可能有助于获取一些好的recoomendation letter,可以锻炼口语
,工作时间比较固定,但也有应工作需要加班的时候。薪资类似破死刀,不会高。职位
本身也会有一点上升空间。
大多数不需要certificate,有的可能需要USMLE score,具体看program要求。
可以直接在网上search "clinical trial",or clinicaltrial.gov等方式寻找。
希望将来做faculty的,要注意这个职位可能不太适合。 |

Microbiology,Psychology,Sociology,Medical Terminology,Statistics
大部分GPA要求3.0, 5年以内GRE 成绩, 3封推荐信 和2000小时临床经验
问题: 国内医学院的分数不高,换算GPA 可能到不了3.0, 不够的话有什么办法补救
吗?
另外也是怎么争取临床经验?

intern前,赶紧动手。好处是只有一次面试机会 (整个package太差,汗一个),所以
篇幅不会很长,大家也不会看得很累啊。其实参加了几个seminar,可能很多都是重复
在说了,不要嫌我啰嗦啊。
1.整体回答问题: 回答任何一个问题,都不要慌,不要太快。可能这个问题你准备得很
好,练习了很多次,也要在回答之前停一两秒,让面试你的人觉得你说的不是背的,不
够真诚。语速不要太快,因为可能有问题你没有准备,这个速度上面反差太大。我还特
意问了我们PD,她怎么从这么多人当中narrow down她的candidate list的,她就说很
看重真诚,是不是每个问题的回答是真诚的,而不是为了应付面试者。这个不光是回答
的内容,表情,眼光,笑容等等。所以练习不要只看重回答的内容,把面试当作你人生
中最重要的一次相亲吧。你只有半个小时让一个陌生人,从不了解到稍微了解你,更重
要的是让他很想更进一步了解你。

我是个铁杆病理,当初申请只申请了这个,最主要原因是看中了不要值夜班,工作时间
相对短,事实证明我是对的也是错的。病理工作时间虽然没有内科长,体现在不用那么
早到,在surgical path我的工作时间平均是早8点到晚7点,偶尔到9点。但是需要大量
阅读,不象内科工作可以学到大部分东西,病理大部分的东西是从书本获得的,自己经
手的case实际非常有限。所以每天保证一定时间的阅读非常重要。
那么作为intern你应该做些什么呢?每个program 的schedule都会不同,但大同小异,
我拣主要的说。
Surgical path
Cover frozen之前,把OR的schedule打印出来看一下,估摸哪些手术会送冰冻,最早的
时候我甚至把可疑的case病史都查一遍copy到word里打印个大概。这样你去取冰冻的时
候就知道外科医生大概要看的是什么。后来我觉得这个有点费时,就不看病史了。因为
