NEW YORK — The chatty mechanics on NPR's "Car Talk" are pulling in to the
garage.
Tom and Ray Magliozzi said Friday they will stop making new episodes of
their comic auto advice show at the end of September, 25 years after "Car
Talk" began in Boston. The show airs every Saturday morning and is National
Public Radio's most popular program.

收银员和前面两个顾客聊天，聊了很久我都在等，后来又有别的顾客排在我后面，大家
都不耐烦了，发出Gosh的声音。我觉得收银员要么prioritize，要么叫人来开放另外的
几条lane。可是她都没有。最终聊完之后，check out我的时候，她竟然说 You are
hungry, anticipating opening up the food.....

不过，呵呵，无知才能无畏，虽然我很认同你的两个孤独论，但我不
认为上网就意味着chatty,就意味着不孤独，就意味不思考，相反
随着视野的开阔，应更感到孤独，我就思考了更多，当然我是一般人，

If by "web service" you guys mean soap, most client toolkits
these days support "keep alive" connections to mitigate the
latency problem.
Of course being chatty is never a good practice in any rpc
programming.
The poor performance of soap compared to rmi could mostly
be attributed to the xml marshalling cost. One project I worked
on, we had huge loan objects to ship over the wire and Axis
just couldn't handle it. We ended up doing binary serialization
ourselves and wrapping the bytes in a soa |

What do you mean by "chatty"? Are you referring to too much data exchange
between client and server? It's all AJAX, so the amount of data exchange
between client and server is much less than traditional server side
framework, like JSP/Servlet. However, it may still require more data
exchange than pure client side RIA frameworks. It's a trade-off: that extra
data exchange is the price you pay, but you get all the advantages of server
