是每一个安全特点都需要付出成本，反应到车的价格上就是，你愿意花多少钱保护自己
的生命？在（碰撞时）非常安全的坦克和非常不安全的自行车之间，有很长的过渡带。
比如1990年时的气囊，假设每个车开10万迈（1990年原文假设5万迈），气囊成本是400
块，而气囊大约能减少1.4生命/1亿迈，所以气囊提供保护生命的成本是29万刀。公式
：400 / 1.4 / （10万/1亿）=29万刀。几乎所有人都相信美国人的平均生命价值超过
29万刀，所以气囊是美国市场上所有车上的标准设备。
可靠性也是，你愿意花多少钱买可靠性？两田的可靠性虽高，但也不是神车，只是坏掉
的几率低于其他品牌，反映到新车价格上也略高于同样定位的美国车。至于是否愿意在
买车时预先多付钱减少以后修车的金钱和成本，各人有不同的看法。基于现有的统计数
据（故障率、平均修复花费），应当可以大致计算出家用车级别上，两田和美车哪个更
值得买。很可惜我暂时还没找到有关的分析。

第八章 敲门，就给开门
以往，我很自负，自信能计画我的未来，如贝多芬所言，扼住命运的喉咙。我大学
毕业后，立志成为一个学者，梦想写出一两部五百年后还有人读的立言之作。我的学术
论文，得到了中央政府颁发的奖金。我的学术论著，被国家教育委员会评定为优秀图书
，我为此而自豪，以为那就是我生命的价值所在。我把生命的意义等同于我的论著，把
立言当做我的永恒，所以，我没有兴趣去寻求上帝。
在美国，我失去了自我。我所学的哲学专业，很难找到工作。能找到工作的学科，
我没有兴趣学。著书立言成了过去，买菜、作饭、清理房间、照料孩子，成了日常生活
。多少次，我一遍遍地问自己：我的永恒是什么？生命有什么意义？
我以为命运捉弄了自己：我没作过美国梦，却来到了美国。在美国，计画中的短期
探亲，成了长期居留；被抛到了异国，却又偏要承认它是家园。我作不到！迷茫中我总
