古罗马后期基督教成为国教，Augustine的这部忏悔录是把宗教和人性结合得最好的一
部作品。我现在只记得两句：”so small a child and so great a sinner”，和他说
自己入教之前是”a cauldron of burning desires”，有了信仰才得到心灵的宁静。
老师说cauldron就是上海博物馆那个鼎的外观造型。Augustine对人性非常悲观，但又
充满宗教的悲悯（divine mercy），这种温和、同情的基调才使它成为文学，而不只是

11月17日，美国Quartzy网站发表题为《中国的“指环王”三部曲终于要翻译成英文了》的文章。据悉，《射雕英雄传》英文译名为Legends of the Condor Heroes， 共分12卷，计划2018年2月发售第1卷《英雄诞生》（A Hero Born）。
对许多武侠小说读者来说，这个世界并不陌生。在他们心中，笔名为金庸的路易斯·查（金庸原名为查良镛）是华语世界最畅销的作家。金庸笔下的武侠世界魅力非凡，不亚于英国作家J·R·R·托尔金（《指环王》作者）的幻想世界。两位作家的作品在创意、广度和深度上不分伯仲。然而，由于语言的鸿沟，金庸在英语国家不太知名。现在，金庸最受欢迎的作品——《射雕》三部曲，在他93岁高龄之际，终于被翻译成了英文。这部小说首次出版可是在1957年。

I’m sorry, but this was possibly the worst Olympic Opening Ceremonies for
the past 50 years. Perhaps the Brits loved it, but the rest of the world was
bored to tears. It was also cringe-worthy at times, such as when the men
from the Industrial Revolution and 19th century clothes started break-
dancing or all the digging and then the kids in their pajamas…just terrible

连接两年Halloween都在入夜时起风落雨，一层秋雨一层凉。不过小孩的热情从来不会
被打湿，年年新鬼旧鬼济济一堂，各家装饰也层出不穷，总有一番探险与热闹。
我们先去村里消防站开的party。今年流行Frozen装：

The opening ceremony was a bit of a grab-bag, wasn’t it? I thought some of
it was great, some was rather bad and quite a lot of it will mystify the
foreign TV viewers (95% of the audience) who it was supposed to dazzle.
Things I liked: Thomas Heatherwick’s Olympic cauldron, a brilliantly
imaginative reworking of the old flame. The Queen allegedly parachuting from
