离开San Francisco De Asis Church，我们向下一个目标（Bandelier National
Monument）出发。那里5点关，而GPS显示要4点半才能到。但是如果要等到第二天再拐
回来的话，后面的行程就要耽误了。所以还是硬着头皮往那儿赶。
我们赶到Bandelier National Monument的时候，Visitor Center正在关门。赶紧拿了

国家大教堂每年圣诞都会举办4次圣餐——基督教最重要的2个法事之一。xmas eve
的2次是要票的，xmas day就不用了。我们从arlington出发，穿过从未如此空旷的
key bridge，美丽的DC淮海路——M Street，不多时就到了。8：50走进教堂，主翼
已经坐满，只好坐在侧翼。有位牧师领我们试唱了一下，提高我们的声音。接着
我们歌唱迎接主教The Rt. Reverend John Bryson Chane，住持The Very Reverend
Samuel T. Lloyd III，传道士The Reverend Canon Carol L. Wade和唱诗班等人，几个
年轻人挥舞着幡。然后就是他们轮流讲经，我们平均1分钟站起一次，唱首歌。

经历了第一天的种种折腾，我和贵妇睡到了日上三竿，醒来杯具地发现贵妇着凉感冒了
，而我久未发作的中耳炎居然也隐隐发作了。洗洗涮涮，出门已过10点半。幸好昨天已
经探过路，坐15路直抵终点站。下了车，看到有药房，便径直冲了进去。还好药店的mm
会讲英文，利落地卖给了我们感冒药和滴耳朵的药，嘱咐了我们每天用药次数。连药房
都光顾了，我们的旅程也算完整了。
大教堂（Cathedral）
从15路终点站Placa de la Reina下车穿过马路，沿着指示牌很快就能到达大教堂。大
教堂也可以坐1路车到达其南侧。大教堂全称Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma，也
称La Seu，是一座哥特式罗马天主教堂，以拥有世界上最大的玫瑰花窗而闻名。大教堂
的原址是一个穆斯林清真寺。传说1229年，阿拉贡国王海梅一世在出征马略卡的航行中

如果你见过明州的车牌，你应该知道明州的slogan是万湖之州。实际上据说有13,000个
湖星罗棋布在整个州内。
同南方的同事聊起来，我觉得最不可思议的就是他们也会抱怨冬天的冷，而同事也会觉
得怎么有人愿意住在那么严寒的地带。
说起来明州的冬天确实是冷，冰天雪地，漫漫严冬。印象中一般10月底开始就是一片白
茫茫的，到次年4月底才会有春天的迹象。而且冷的时候真的是冷。记忆中最深刻的一
次，大约气温是华氏零下30多度，windchill则是零下47度。下了班去Costco逛街，停
车的地方离大门大约也只有20米，可是冰冷的空气好像能把整个呼吸道都凝结，只能屏
住呼吸，一路小跑冲了进去。
虽然如此，我依然很怀念在明州的日子。
明州很美，记得双城马拉松的小册子上的宣传口号是The most beautiful urban
marathon in the United States，我很愿意相信这个说法。从Minneapolis的downtown
开始，绕过一个右一个风景优美的湖泊，最终在具有悠久历史的Summit大街上攀升那让所

主卧只能tray ceiling, 都挺好的，一般二楼8 feet的弄个tray ceiling没有

老人会来暂住或常住。第一次买房，不知道哪些事项是比较重要的，请大侠们给个建议
选哪个好：
房子A： 2004年建造，3500sqft，lot 0.4 acre，4 bedroom / 3.5 bath，2 car
garage，HOA $400/year。
优点：位于cul-de-sac里，坐东南朝西北，前后采光都很好。房子内部及后院都很宽敞
。后院背靠树林，从多数窗户看出去都是绿景。一楼cathedral式的客厅，感觉很宽敞
，也比较亮堂。房子内部新升级的soft close橱柜，花岗岩吧台，一楼全部实木地板，
二楼毛茸茸的很好的地毯。
不合意的地方是： 1，主卧室在一楼，其他3个卧室都在二楼。这样孩子房间不能在自
己的隔壁，或者就都住二楼，唯一很大很好的主卧室长期放置不用，很可惜； 2，主卧
的浴室没有排风，我们都爱泡澡，要靠旁边的厕所排风，不知道效果如何； 3，主要担
心的是房子有11年了，担心空调 （heat pump），房顶等的寿命，是否过几年我们就需

2年前沿着Grand Circle逛了一圈后，一直很怀念那里的奇特景色，老想着有机会再去
走一趟，但是平时要跑出这么久，时间上好像不大可能。在一个偶然机会，我发现可以
从洛杉矶晚上坐Amtrak火车，睡一个晚上，第二天一早到Flagstaff，然后可以在
Flagstaff晚上坐火车再返回洛杉矶。这样就不必开从洛杉矶到Flagstaff/Grand
Canyon这最长最无聊7个小时的一段了。于是我计划了一下，最后决定坐火车加租车，
花个3天时间带我小外甥走个Mini Circle。
星期四下班后，我开车到离家最近的Fullerton车站上车。我坐的是从洛杉矶始发到芝

走一趟，但是平时要跑出这么久，时间上好像不大可能。在一个偶然机会，我发现可以
从洛杉矶晚上坐Amtrak火车，睡一个晚上，第二天一早到Flagstaff，然后可以在
Flagstaff晚上坐火车再返回洛杉矶。这样就不必开从洛杉矶到Flagstaff/Grand
Canyon这最长最无聊7个小时的一段了。于是我计划了一下，最后决定坐火车加租车，
花个3天时间带我小外甥走个Mini Circle。
星期四下班后，我开车到离家最近的Fullerton车站上车。我坐的是从洛杉矶始发到芝
加哥的4号车，也叫Southwest Chief。
这个车站是Amtrak和Metrolink合用的一个站。当Metrolink进站时，广播会不停的提醒
Amtrak的乘客不要坐错车。
晚点了将近一个小时，火车终于到了。在这里上车的乘客不多，大家随便排着就上车了。
我买的是卧铺票，包饭。一上车，刚进包厢里，列车员就来安排吃饭的时间。然后大家
分批去餐车吃饭。这个是餐车的一角。

发帖数: 13407 | 39 这个季节是CHICAGO最好玩的季节了, 2,3个月后, 或2,3个月前日子还真没法过, 大风
忽忽吹, 除了地震, 海萧基本啥都会发生. 到了STL, 再买张去CHICAGO的票, 也没多少
钱.
真要在STL玩的话, 我觉得就那几样啊, arch, art museum(在forest park里), cathedral
basilica of st louis, washington university in st louis,你有娃的话, st louis
zoo也可玩玩, 你爱花花草草的话, Missouri Botanical Garden也可去转转(里边号称有北美最大的日本园, 不过我觉得好象是吹的!不过, 里面那个看tropical plants的climatron conservatory还是非常赞的!). Art Museum对面的history museum就别去了, 纯脆是浪费时间......
时间上可这么来, 如果是我的话我会这么玩. 第一天一大早, 6am跑去st louis downtown看

第二天一大早，睡眼惺忪的几个人被我拖起来去著名的red rock crossing看Cathedral
Rock。在我的白日梦里，我们看到的景象应该是这样的：
等我们到了地方，我彻底傻了眼。那里大门紧闭，更惨的是，太阳是从山背后升起来，
从这个方向只能拍剪影...看来，以后出去不仅要研究什么地方好看，还要研究太阳、
月亮入射角度...这个red rock crossing看起来应该是日落的时候去。没有办法，那就
绕到别的角度看看吧。
这也是著名的大石头，bell rock。
