weil在1940年初被送回法国，关在一个叫“Bonne-Nouvelle”
的监狱里，几个月里在代数几何方面取得了重大突破
后来Cartan，Henri（1904-）写信给weil说
“并不是我们每一个人都能和你这么幸运能在这么安静的环境下
工作”
还有一次weil在作报告时有个地方证明不下去了，weyl，Hermann
（1885-1955）建议他再回监狱里呆几个月
尽管weil对做囚犯情有独衷，不过5月份当法庭让他在“5年监禁”
和“在军队里服务”两者之中选一个时，他选择了后者
不过，这一次他做对了
几天后，因为德军的日益逼近，这个监狱里的犯人全部被处绝 |

代数数论。。。圈子小得很。几个电话一打，还不就名校的offers分布就搞清楚了。
补充一个，Caltech的一个位置现在是二选一，需要on-site interview. 其中一个是库
朗所Percy
Deift的学生，搞Random Matrix。这是个德国学生，已经有Bonn的offer。他即使拿到
Caltech的offer
也不一定会要。 |

第三个Efimov是做镜像对称和非交换几何的，Steklov数学所的研究员，88年出生的年
轻人，是Orlov的学生，在同调镜像对称方面的工作非常不错，Kontsevich他们对他评

第四个现在是Princeton的讲师，也是代数几何的。

另外还必须要提到的是Simon Brendle和Fernando Codá Marques，第一个是Stanford

年的1小时报告，微分几何专家，79年出生，估计2018年拿奖可能性非常大。
其实大陆要拿奖，可能还是再往后的一些人反而可能性大，早期的大陆学生在国内打的
基本功就不太好，2005年以后，国内可以拿到的资料比以前好了很多，甚至存在中学把

动力学更是只见过封面，所以我对先生的作品了解是不多的。也因为如此，本着不可人云
亦云的教训，我坦率讲我对他的大师风范没有体会。
不过，有一个关于他的故事是我无法释怀的。
大三学固体物理的时候，老师在课堂上讲过一个他的故事。大家知道，在讨论周期势场中
的电子时，一般的教材都是一方面介绍bloch定理，另一方面施加周期性边界条件。我
敢说
，大部分学生在这个时候对后者是有疑惑的。至少我当时如此。很显然，Bloch定理只
适用
于无限大小的晶体，不然没有严格的周期性。周期性边界条件的选择，就我个人的理解，
只是因为这是一种合理的可接受的策略。具体而言，很可能是因为对原子数足够大的晶体
，其众多物理性质（尤其是体的性质）对边界不敏感，所以自然允许我们有一定的自由选
择方便的边界条件。（如果我记得没错，张先蔚老师的统计物理里有个有关ising |
