种解决办法：1.离婚，但实在太贵了，一般人离不起；2. 把老婆杀了，但风险实在太
大了，一般人杀不起；3.在市场上卖掉。（不过正是因为离婚太昂贵，18，19世纪的英
国有很多杀妻案。这样的案例让大导演Hitchcock 拍了不少上乘的心理悬疑片。）
直到20世纪初，英国男人都能够随随便便在市场上找个合适的买主把老婆卖掉。卖老婆
的黄金时期大约在1780-1850年间，光史料记载的就有约300多例。当然，私底下的交易
就更多了。
报纸记载的卖妻第一例要追溯到1733年的Birmingham，Samuel Whitehouse在市场上以1
英镑将老婆Mary Whitehouse卖给了Thomas Griffiths。按事先拟定的合约，对Mary，
Griffiths必须现货照单全收。
1801年，一女子被丈夫标价1便士在市场上出售。顿时引来了十里八乡的光棍竞价，最
