feel Molecular biology hard. But this is definitely my weakness. I have
never done any lab work at all. I have two weeks before my step 1 exam.
I have the Kaplan note on molecular biology and some old kaplan qs as well.
And I am looking for high yield molecular biology pdf file and/or some Q
banks on molecular biology, or other materials that you think are helpful.

未果, 现在再次提出申请.
1. 学生物的网友迫切需要交流, 尤其能用中文探讨最新的一些研究动向和成果,
倍感 biology 的亲切.
2. 每每在science板讨论与 biology 有关的问题, 总是被一片物理专家们的声音
所掩盖, 而且 science 板如今有拼比 IQ 和 EQ 的趣向, 于科学的发展不利.
3. 象很多著名的网点如 Yahoo, Altavista 都专门为 biology 开辟专板, 身肩
探索科学与民主重任的MIT BBS 当然也不应该落后于人.
4. 新成立的 biology 板可以放在 "科学与人文" 专栏内, 虽然目前科学与人文内
板数目已满一屏, 但是站长一定有办法解决这个问题.

为GF发文，她本科成绩不错，保送读硕，GRE也行，620，800，790，
托福正在准备8月26号考。
研究背景是做Biomaterial方面的，已经在“中华口腔医学杂志”发
表一篇文章，
唯一缺陷GRE Sub in Biology不高，只有730
81%，主攻方向想申请Biology
然后申请小部分School of Dentistry的Dental Science或Oral
Biology，
我虽然是外行，总觉得还是搞跟口腔相关的比较好，哪怕是口腔生物
学，比起去搞
Cellular，Molecular，Nerobiology等等总是要擅长一点点。
诸位给点建议。 |

少，这方面的job opening很多。
具有讽刺意味的是四年前我拿到了USC的molecular and computational biology的offe
r没去，来做bench work。认为那才算做生物研究。不过现在发现做实验对动手操作和经
验的要求太高，对逻辑思维的要求不那么高，很没意思。
现在已经决心学computer science，不知道computational biology的前景如何，job m
arket 如何。我个人感觉是基本只能当教授搞研究，工业界基本没有职位。原来读生物
的PhD的时候是一心想当faculty的，不过被折磨了这么多年以后真的有点怕了，不知道
自己是不是适合做faculty。

I don't know if it's good or evil that biology is such explicitly fielded. But
I do feel it very difficult to communicate cross-fieldly. Not only for reason of
taxonomy and nomenclature, but for the reason of lack of mutual interest.
Currently, most work we've done and summarized and theorized is to reduce the
biological phenomena to chemical or physical level. But why it came with a
biological system, which everybody must be curious even at an infant stage, is
still large |

What matters is not the major, it depends on the lab and her research
did during her study. The department in biology fields are not that
clearly borderred, many people do research that is not related with their

说起进入Math/Systems/Synthetic Biology这个领域， 我是从学习nonlinear
dynamics开始的。用的书是Steve Strogatz那本经典的Nonlinear dynamics and chaos
.这本书深入浅出，已经慢慢开始成为生物背景的同学学习应用微分方程的标准参考书
了。但是Steve Strogatz 的研究重点还是在应用数学上，但是2005年波士顿ICSB2005
年会依然请他做了一个演讲。
提到他，就要提到他的导师，Arthur Winfree，此人我觉得算得上当代math biology
的开山鼻祖了。Steve Strogatz ICSB2005 的演讲也就是作为对Arthur Winfree 的一
个致敬了 （全部内容都是Arthur Winfree 的研究，没有Steve Strogatz 自己的研究
。Arthur Winfree 2002 年去世的）。

说过去几年开创了math biology 这个领域，只能说他焕发了青春。我想这么说更贴切
一些。
我想再补充一下，也顺便应云彩，司马不光大哥/老弟的要求，在这里献丑推荐些文章
。我想再强调一点的是，这个领域涉及面很广，很多化工，物理方面专家也做出了很大
的贡献（向我么中国人自豪的庄晓薇，sunny xie 都做出了很不错的成绩），如果有
谁的老板，同事被我漏掉了，请恕我疏漏。也欢迎大家来讨论补充。
现在的sysBio 大概能归为两类：一类是应用微分方程或者离散随机过程帮助研究比较
细节化的生物过程。细化到细胞内的某种分子的数量。一般大家只做某个通路，试验结
果也都小规模的。这方面我还是觉得John Tyson的工作最为系统和成功。他用微分方程
模型完整地解释细胞周期的机制。如果你能读懂Nonlinear dynamics and chaos 前面4
章，看他的文章应该就没问题了。这些成果是他近20年研究的集成，我么可以思考一下

提到他，就要提到他的导师，Arthur Winfree，此人我觉得算得上当代math biology

首先，知道大家的提议都是为了生物版本身好。在此谢谢大家以上的讨论！
对于生物版所争论的版务管理及讨论话题，几点意见：
1、话题讨论自由，人身攻击严禁：不建议限制话题，无论退或不退，均可讨论，但拒绝人身攻击行为；
2、版主可视情况对版面话题进行适度引导，尽量维护与维持版面的讨论方向；
3、对好的话题、好的帖子，版主可多鼓励并及时加入精华区；
针对以上原则，仍倾向于原版主Oncogene继续留任Biology版版主一职。
考虑到Biology话题较多，讨论也多，两个版主（Oncogene、pigskin）可能精力有限，版主可以再多添加2名版副，协助处理版务及整理精华区。
望同样有兴趣并愿意为Biol |
