epicycles. It was used before Newton to describe the motion of the planets,

北半球都是最佳观测位置。每晚 12：30-3：00 都是最佳观测时间，而且还没月亮，还
有四天时间。
今晚和明晚很多有天文台的地区都开放大型telescope免费给人们观测。具体信息
Google “Perseid meteor shower+ 你所在的城市名”，几乎每一个城市的媒体或者当
地的astronomical society或者天文台都有详细信息，告诉当地居民去什么地方观测。
美好的场景总是短暂的，看流星雨其实就是捕捉那一刹那。昨晚上最激动人心的就是有
两颗在空中交叉划过，还有两颗是平行划过，又大又亮，在场的人都同时叫起来了。有
时候等很长时间都没看见，有时候几颗同时出现。昨晚上的信息是平均每小时有80颗，
55%都是illumination （这是非常高的比例了）
Tips：
1：最好带上睡垫，睡袋毯子，钻在睡袋里躺在地上看是最好的视野，每一颗流星都是

盲目推崇，英文里并没有这么大的差别，只是两个不同的职业而已。
实用的就叫engineering，不直接实用的就叫science，从这个角度说学校里搞的
绝大多数都叫science，公司里搞的绝大多数都叫engieering
做science的人叫scientist，-ist结尾的。其他以ist结尾的词还有
artist, physicist, biologist，听上去都还不错，可是还有racist，rapist
engineer的结尾是-er，类似的还有programmer，painter，gardener等，好像是要低级
一些，可是也还有philosopher，astronomer等
其实最牛的是-ian，比如mathematician，musician，magician，historian等，

July 9, 2002 | For Tim Puckett, amateur astronomy long ago transcended being
a hobby. Words like passion and obsession are more apt to explain Puckett's
dedication to the heavens. The most telling evidence is his homegrown Puckett
Observatory Supernova Search, affectionately referred to as POSS.
To date, he and his team of more than a dozen volunteers have discovered 54

Explanation: The Crab Nebula, filled with mysterious filaments, is the result of a star that
was seen to explode in 1054 AD. This spectacular supernova explosion was recorded by
Chinese and (quite probably) Anasazi Indian astronomers. The filaments are mysterious
because they appear to have less mass than expelled in the original supernova and higher

threaten Earth, astronomers have tallied more than 600 asteroids with
estimated diameters of at least 1 kilometer. However, as several participants
noted during a "space roundtable" held July 10th in Washington, D.C.,
